Retired numbers/reserved numbers
A very small suggestion: it'd be nice to have an option in the right-click menu, up near "Shortlist Player," to "Reserve Player Number." As long as the player was active—regardless of whether he was on the roster—no other player would get his number. Every time he returned to the active roster, he'd get the same number again.
If he left the organization via trade, FA, etc., you'd get a prompt asking whether you wanted to make his number available again or continue reserving it. When he retired, you'd get a prompt asking whether you wanted to retire it. |

I don't know if I need more in game prompts especially with something like that but reserving a number is an interesting idea. Question I'd have though is if the guy isn't good enough to stick around in the majors why save his number for him. Seems like something a future HOFer should get but not a marginal player who can't stick around. I will say it is kind of silly to see a guy come up (because of injury or whatever) and get sent back down and then come back up with a different number.
Perhaps a good strategy would be to give called up players numbers starting with X first called up is say 51 next is 52 etc. Historically some teams used this strategy but I don't think it's used anymore. I think the game tries to give the player the same number they had in the minors, unless it's used, or the closest number if it is. The issue, I think, that the game uses the number but doesn't lock it to a player. So when a player gets assigned a number temporarily and gets sent back down that number is considered used. Assigning numbers (for as lifetime as possible) could be a neat way to add more storylines. Rookie x and veteran y have the same numbers and based on loyalty, greed, desire, etc the vet might give it up the number or the rookie might not even ask for it or they might trade it for a meal or something. As happens in real life. |

I don't know how complex this would get.
Having a drop down/Jersey Menu with available numbers (per organization (ML, AAA & all the affiliates) would be a great feature down the line.

The only way the list would help is if it was for players reaching the majors only. Which would be a nice feature BUT every time a new player reached the majors for your organization it would stop the sim to ask you to pick a number. What the game really needs is to just lock a mlb number to a player even if that isn't the number the player uses in the minors. I doubt any team would have more than 109 players in the majors in a year so you wouldn't run into any issues. |

I'd actually like it if we just had that option in the actions tab so we could easily retire the number. That way I wouldn't have to go back in forth when adding the number and a brief description of the player.
Very cosmetic but that would be enormously helpful.
