How do I change the starting 40 man roster?

In the MLB start roster, the Astros only have ~31 guys on their 40 man roster - including George Springer, who was not on it on opening day. It's easy enough to add guys - but how can I remove Springer without putting him on waivers?

You are confusing the 25-man roster with the 40-man roster. Only 25 men are on the active roster on opening day.

I'm not confused - I don't want Springer on the opening day 40 man roster (he was not). It's an error in the OOTP roster and I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. Anyone?

You could probably go into commissioner mode and do it manually, but other than that I have no idea.

Back up your league. Then create a new human manager and make him commissioner. Then "log in" as that manager and move the player.

I say back up first because I am not confident in that answer.

Go into commissioner mode and edit his mlb service time to 0 after the Astros 14th game. No muss no fuss.
