Terrible Names: Random Team Names Edition - Page 2

Not too long ago, I added a Japanese league to my long-time MLB league to play around with this feature. When the team names came up, I saw they were all randomized, but since I did not know the actual team names (and I was in a hurry), I decided not to bother with re-naming them and just do with whatever random nickname the game generated.

A few game years later, when I was actually reading news stories about teams and players in the league, I realized belatedly that OOTP had given the Hiroshima team the nickname Atomics. I think I am going to have to go in and change that one.

Exactly. I don't offend easily, especially since I know it was a random number generator at the heart of it. But each time I see it I have to cringe a little, so I'll probably just edit to take away that jarring moment.

I didn't pay much attention to the auto gens for my fictional league except for one.

Oak Lawn Blue Rocks

I started laughing and had to keep the city and the name. I was changing all the cities to ones that had some interesting history I could make into the team name but I had to keep the Oak Lawn Blue Rocks. I even switched the team I was going to manage to them just because I like the name. Seriously just typing this made me smile.

The only other still fictional team name in my league is the Anna Wildcats. Which I kept because wildcats is the name of Anna, Illinois, high school teams. I figured that was enough of a coincidence to keep the name.
