I just got scolded

I was playing the second game of the season of my fictional league.

My team is clearly in rebuilding mold as we just don't have the cash to compete with the big market teams. I am in my first season, so we are not predicted to do much.

Our first series is against Anaheim (one of the bigger spending clubs). We won the first game of the series 4-2. In the second game we were up 2-0 early only to give up the lead in the seventh.

Anyhow we finally win in eleven innings. My wife and daughter ended up yelling at me to be quiet as I was clapping the walk off double. I guess I am louder playing the game (I am into my fictional team too much) than when I am watching the Cubs win.

I just thought I would pass it on, not expecting to be the only one.

Thanks,

Taz

A lot of us do that. People who don't play just don't get it.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

While I haven't gotten scolded, my girlfriend cannot fathom why I have spent something like 40 hours plotting my new league. I haven't even created it yet, let alone actually played it. I've just been mapping out divisions, finding logos, jerseys, caps, and so on.

Haha.

My wife is used to it, when I am playing and something happens in game and I get loud/swear/etc she will ask things like: Somebody get injured? Did your team blow a 4 run lead? Somebody draft the guy you wanted? (and she knows very little about bb, just picked it up from my stories/answers over 12 versions of OOTP). She even asks me more often "How are your teams?" than she does "How was work today?"

Haha.
Same with the missus.

"I don't get what you're doing. How is this fun?" is her usual line, more or less.

I usually get scolded when I cheer for my real life teams... I now have to record games and watch them when she's either asleep or away.

If you're loud when watching the Cubs win, then your wife and daughter aren't used to hearing you get loud that often.

my girlfriend asked me what i was doing the other day and i responded with "im shopping around my backup catcher because ive got a great prospect at triple a. i need a little bullpen depth as well."

she gave me the dirtiest look ive ever seen and then went to the bedroom to contemplate our relationship im guessing.

My wife totally understands my OOTP addiction.

However, It always feels a wee bit weird when she says, " Playing with your little men again"?

I never know exactly how to answer that question.

And clearly she also doesn't understand the acronym either.

I've had trouble sticking with a league recently and keep starting over. Each time I tell my wife what I'm doing she just shakes her head and rolls her eyes. She is a huge baseball fan, too, just doesn't understand why I like this game so much.

Haha I know that feeling! Let's face it, people like us just like the league creation! I honestly spend more time setting my league up than I do playing it!!

My wife, God bless her. She's the best. Since I went into retirement, my life is essentially a whole lot of baseball. I play in a hardball league. I have Cubs season tickets. I watch my hometown Tigers on Extra Innings and MLB.TV (yes, I subscribe to both). She's OK when I go to White Sox and Brewers games (like this Friday night to see Puig in Milwaukee), or even overnight trips out of town with buddies for games. I'm active in SABR and go to the convention every year. I have baseball books strewn all over the house.

She's so OK with my baseball craze that she bought me a first pitch off the mound at a Tiger game for Christmas in 2012, and a year membership to the Hall of Fame last year, and we are going on a week long driving trip to Cooperstown passing through Toledo, Detroit, Toronto, Syracuse and Pittsburgh to see games along the way.

So I think she would be forgiven if she hammered me for paying as much attention to a fictional British baseball league as I do to real baseball games. And I really do. But she is so cool about it, she'll ask me how the league is going, and in a genuine I-care-about-you-and-your-interests way, not in a snarky, ironic or sarcastic you're-such-a-loser way.

I love my wife.

I'm jealous and hate you at the same time lol
My only solution is to give my gf more booze so she'll go to bed faster

Ha haaa! Well, it did take me until I was almost 37 to find her, and I had to kiss a lot of frogs along the way, but it was worth the wait.

My wife has never complained about my ootp addiction. I think it has to do with the fact that my main hobby cost $40 a year.
