Coming from another online game
Hello,
I'm currently playing hardball dynasty which has been fun for awhile, however it's $25 a season and there is a waiting period for rolling over to the next season until all 32 teams are filled up with paying owners. I think I'm just done. A friend told me about OOTP and the All-Star sale. I'm thinking about making the jump and bringing a bunch of people over. I just need a few things answered if someone has a minute. 1. In online leagues, if owners are all using OOTP15, is owning that version the only cost? Do owners all need to pay for every season completed? 2. In online leagues, if there are unclaimed teams, can the CPU run the team so we don’t have to wait for the league to fill up with real player owners? 3. I saw a youtube video of the play-by-play gameplay where you strategize every batter. In online leagues, are all games played this way? Do you play real time verse other players? I appreciate your help in advance. I'm basically looking to replace the online Hardball Dynasty experience by running or joining a private world. Thanks |

To your questions 1. Owning the game is typically the only cost. A few "pay" leagues have been run. Not sure of the success. Occasionally a league commissioner will ask for donations to defray web site costs. This is both rare and reasonable. 2. Yes teams can be run via the cpu. Typically if one owner leaves a league they don't shut down. 'The commish of an online league will post this info up front in most if not all leagues. Some start up leagues will insist on filling up but again that varies greatly. Should be little concern to you. 3. I can only give a partial answer. Others will chime in for sure. Typically games are simulated that is you download a league file set your lineups make some transactions then upload the file to the league server. The commish will then run a simulation for a specified time say 1 week. The results will then be available in a new league file. Head to head play is not typical but is possible under some special conditions. I'm not the best informed in this area. There is much more to this. I suggest you go to the online league forum and check out some of the leagues directly most if not all have contact info readily available. Hope this helps!!

That is pretty helpful. It sounds like the multiplayer league isn't an online persistent experience, where you can make moves, roster calls etc all in real time. So the commish publishes the league file intermittently?
What if the league file is released for download every 10 games, but you have an injury in game 1? You don't get to make the necessary roster changes for the next game? I'm just a little worried about the control factor of your club. I assume the off season there are new league files like every day during arbitration, free agency etc. |

The off-season sims are no different from in-season sims, in terms of the intervals. Ultimately, each sim can be any number of days. Last edited by eriqjaffe; 07-14-2014 at 04:56 PM. |

7 day sims are pretty common. The game has a good depth chart system so you have players prepped for injuries and suspensions. You are also in control of the active (25) roster size. If you feel the depth is too small you can increase the 25 man roster allowing for more subs.

Many online leagues sim 7 days at a time, but some few sim one day at a time. I'm in one of these leagues, and I do enjoy the day-to-day ability to make changes, react to injuries, etc. Check out the Online Leagues forum, each commish will post the details/rules for their particular league.
