Feeder League

Can someone please explain to me how a feeder league works with regard to the June Draft?

I am interested in a creating feeder leagues for HS and College players, and having them be the players who appear in my draft (as opposed to a random assignment of players each year).

Is this possible? If so, what do I do to set it up properly under the above format?

Does this produce quality results, or is it better to just use the current out-of-the-box draft system that comes in-game?

Thank you for any advice.

Definitely doable and also preferable in that you get better stats to rely upon in the draft. Also, it's just leads to deeper immersion in the game. You see the "youngsters" develop in their feeder leagues and you start recognizing names, looking forward to them appearing in the draft after they "graduate."

There is a ton of information in the online manual about feeder leagues. Remember, like a lot of things in life, too much of a good thing is too much. Read the part about how many teams to have in your feeder leagues (I think OOTPB 15 has a wizard now to help you through the process of creating feeder leagues - not sure, though because I have not tried it yet in this version).

Quick question...

I recently have started an MLB start (2014) and have already completed the June Draft for 2014.

When should I set up the Feeder League in order for it to populate my draft in 2015? Will creating it at the time I am supposed to fully populate the draft field in 2015 (meaning, when a feeder league is created - does it create enough guys in year one who are already 17 or 21 - or does it create everyone at the minimum age and will take 4 years in order for them to get to the draft?)

Also - does turning ON feeder leagues automatically adjust the draft settings and turn OFF the standard way the draft works in the game?

Thanks for any help !

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. Much appreciated. Unfortunately, I had already reviewed the post you sent and still had the questions that I don't feel I can answer with the information presented.

Maybe this explanation will make more sense...

I am currently playing a season. I have already passed the june draft for season #1. When should I create the feeder league to ensure the feeder league's players appear for the june draft of season #2?

Also - if I create the feeder league - does the feeder league (using HS as an example with the recommended settings) start with ONLY players aged 14 who then age over a few season to being 17/18 and draft eligible OR...does the first year of the feeder league START with a mix on players of ages 14-18 who and provide the necessary amount of players available for the draft?

...

1. Well, when do you want your feeder league season to end? Around draft time? How many games do you want your feeder league to play? Figure out those things then you'll know when to add the feeders so their season starts on time.

2. Your feeders will have a mix, so you'll get players for your draft. Depending on how many rounds, you may get feeder players plus additional created by the game if there's not enough. Just make sure you create enough feeder teams to cover your draft and you should be fine.

For a feeder league, I don't think it matters when you create it but you have to realize that it may take a while for it to "produce" which I think is getting into your second question. Depending on how you set it up with age ranges, if you do it now, the feeder league should produce at least a few players for your next draft (you'll have to accept auto-creations for the rest of the pool).

Every league has two sets of ranges regarding age: creation and roster limit. It's up to you as to whether you want to create new players in a feeder league at only 14 or have a mix of players 14-18 to begin with. That's the first screen print.

If you start with all 14-year-olds, they will all age at roughly the same rate so you will not get anybody for your draft for three years or so, then in the fourth year you will have a bumper crop.

And that's only if you set your feeder league for maximum of 17 or 18 years, as you should. That's the second screen print.

This is from a file that I attached to this post. I copied portions of it from these forums a while back and I still think the information is applicable. Remember, though, if you create all the high-schoolers at age 14, you will have no "graduates" for at least another three drafts.

Increasing Feeder League Realism
While feeder leagues are intended primarily just as a source of players to be drafted, some people want the feeder leagues to behave as close to real life as possible. Some members of the OOTP community have recommended the following settings for feeder leagues:

For High School feeder leagues:

On the Rules screen, set the Age Minimum to 14.
On the Rules screen, set the Age Maximum to 17.
On the Options screen, set the Create Age Min. to 14.
On the Options screen, set the Create Age Max. to 14.

This will result in most high school players playing for four years and entering the draft at age 18.

For College feeder leagues:

On the Rules screen, set the Age Minimum to 18.
On the Rules screen, set the Age Maximum to 21.
On the Options screen, set the Create Age Min. to 18.
On the Options screen, set the Create Age Max. to 18.

This will result in most college players playing for four years and entering the draft at age 22.
