I feel your pain.

The worst part is all of the best players being taken on teams that already went, so you can't even do the team you really wanted to anymore.

Well if you open it to pre-WW2 teams you should also allow post-WW2.

The reason I don't like combining the two eras is because they were so vastly different. The Yankees, for the most part, dominated the pre-war era wining 10 World Series titles in 20 years. Prior to 1920 home runs were nearly non-existent and pitching staffs consisted of generally 4 starters that usually pitched the entire game. No such thing as a bullpen.

Back then, only 2 teams made the playoffs. You had 2-3 teams every year with 50+ WAR that did not make the playoffs. Post-war, you might have one team with 40-45 WAR not make the playoffs every other year or so. It was just so vastly unbalanced back then with such a large portion of the talent contained on 5 or 6 teams.

This is the reason I'm against including those teams. It's too easy to pick a good team who would have made the playoffs in a modern format, but missed it due to the time period. Even if you limit the third round to only those teams, eventually eight of those teams will go up against the modern ones in the final round, and that wouldn't be fair. I'd suggest maybe just doing a "pre-war bonus round" or something, so it has no bearing on the outcome of the competition as a whole.

How about if you allow pre WW2 teams - put a quota on a decade. Like 5 teams from '00-'10, 5 teams from '11-20, etc

I'm not so convinced of this. We are talking about 60+ seasons of baseball that we can pick from. Now I will contend that most of the dominate second place teams have probably already been chosen, but there are still good teams out there. Every team chosen get a boost with the addition of two historical players. Who is to say that a mediocre team with the right two additions doesn't become a great club? That's why we are playing the games right? To see if that happens. Anyway, I would keep the format the same, but this isn't my project and a decision to allow pre WW-II teams isn't a deal breaker for me. I'll keep picking because I like following the season through the dynasty report.

Couldn't you say about the same for any pre-1969 team, not just pre-WWII ones?

But that said, I still think pre-WWII squads should be a separate league completely. Maybe even another yet for dead ball era teams. Complicated, but it keeps the concept rolling for a bit, I suppose.

Oh, no pre-war era teams. What about banning previously selected teams and players? I really don't want 2 of the same teams in the finals. Even with 2 different players it's pretty much going to be two identical teams..
