Off topic: EA NHL 15 Talk

Not a huge fan of EA Sports, but with the new Next Gen. consoles coming around I think it's worth a shot again to buy NHL 15.

From what I've been reading at the NHL 15 website I really like the features, especially the NBC package.

I know EA has a reputation of saying A and doing X but at least they get us all curious again at this time a year.
Can't wait to find out more info..

Haven't bought NHL 14 last year because of the disappointments in NHL 13 and 12. I think EA hasn't done enough to the NHL franchise over the last few years so i'm gonna try it one more time with a new console if that doesn't do it for me I'm done with console gaming and EA for sure.

First two pics looks nice - curious about what the goalies will look like.

Wish they made a feature in the game where Arena's aren't always sold out for every team.
Like Detroit, I've seen them play (TV) a few times this season and it was ugly how many empty seats in the house during the season.

I believe EA had this feature in the game when Dany Heatley from Freiburg Germany who won the Harry Allen Memorial Trophy as the league's top scorer in 1997–98. Such a good player and he has a very kind mother as well was on the cover of the game. ( Sorry Pierre Mcguire moment )
I think it was NHL 04, The year where you also had to change the ticket prices for season and play-off games in season mode.

Excited again, probably disappointed in the end again as well. I've bought the game every year since EA Hockey was released. Love/hate relationship like no other with this franchise. Also, here's a picture of MSG for you as well:

EA's NHL series is always frustrating because of the potential it has that you know isn't going to be met. I got NHL 12 for the PS3 and liked its career mode, but in every other form of gameplay it ultimately lost out to NHL 2K7 -- and you know it's bad when your brand-new game is being passed up for a five-year-old alternative.

There were two things about NHL 12 that particularly bugged me. First, it seemed like I couldn't score at all -- I guess if I played the game long enough I might have gotten the hang of it, but as it was there wasn't anything I could do, playing as the best snipers in the game, to get it past anybody.

Secondly, and more importantly, EA's games have always been blatantly scripted, and infused with generous doses of catchup logic. It can be very frustrating to play the game when you know that it's already decided, for the most part, what's going to happen. I knew something was up when my all-star team, stacked with historic players like Joe Sakic, Mike Modano and Al MacInnis, had to take a "Play for the Cup" series to game 7. Along similar lines, I swore off simming in franchise mode when the same super-team was decisively defeated in the semifinals by the 2012 Red Wings.

NHL 2K7 won my affections when it comes to sitting down and playing a hockey video game. It's easy to pick up, it has enough options and sliders to satisfy most fans, it has that fun factor that seems to be missing from EA's newer games, and I know that the game hasn't decided well in advance that it's going to be a tight one. The game always feels like it's a blank slate, and anything can happen -- I'm not sure that I've ever gotten that feeling from a EA NHL game.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get NHL 15; that's totally up to you. I really enjoyed playing the career mode in NHL 12, and would like the chance to see an upgraded version of that. Outside of "Be a Pro", though, and controlling a single player on the ice, I wasn't particularly impressed by NHL 12, and I don't imagine the newer ones will be that much better. EA always promises huge improvements and amazing new features, and they are consistently just short of what you would hope for.

The perfect hockey game would have 2K's gameplay, EA's presentation, and EHM's interface and franchise mode. So far, though, none of these games have ever been able to get everything right. EA's been making hockey games for a long time, so based on their track record, I think it's reasonable to conclude that this one will probably not be much different from the last one. If you want to see drastic changes, I bet you'll have to wait until NHL 20.

Until they can make the game with realistic number and types of penalties, likely will be a no go for me.....can't figure out why they can't ever get that right.

Yeah those things frustrates me also a lot.. Like outshooting the computer by 36 - 12 in shots and still losing 4 - 1.

It often takes you 3 hours of time to set all sliders the way you want and make the game a bit more playable.

That's totally not true at all..

You're talking from the vision of a diehard gamer who likes to spend 1000,- + on a power PC that's totally build for gaming only. It's fine but that's a very very selected group of people you can't make games for. Most people just like to buy consoles because they are way more affordable and easy to install-/maintain.

Nice pic!

- The glass, boarding and everything in the arena looks very good and detailed, the kids behind the glass.

- Finally 4 officials on the ice.

- Love the fact that it looks like has also removed all their EA logo's from the game-play. All these years everywhere you looked during the game you saw EA sports logo's.

- The player models look the same from a distance. Their probably just the same only with new graphics attach to them.

Yep...although the penalty sliders have never worked like they should.....you should be able to max them out and get a million penalties, likewise you should be able to put it at the lowest setting and see hardly any penalties. But no matter what combination you use, no way to get them behaving that way. If they fix that part of the game, I would be all in, but playing a game of hockey where special teams don't matter, bugs me way too much for enjoyment.

Adjusting the CPU and Human Strategy sliders reduces some (but not all) of the catch-up, pre-determined-game-result logic. Put the sliders in the centre or a bit lower.

its actually not as a selective group as you would think it is.pc gaming is bigger then it has ever been.the only thing that keep people from buying pc's is the fact they think its complicated to build one them self.and that they think a pc is very expensive to maintain witch is not true.you save a massive amount on games and don't need to pay a subscription to play online on pc.so no they aren't more affordable at all.as for NHL 15 if it comes to pc it will be worth something again as i will never ever buy a console again.they break way to much and lag and cost way to much to buy games for

When they stopped making NHL games for the PC, I stopped buying them.

I tried NHL12 on my PS3, and it was a total piece of crap. I managed to get through half of a season once before my save game got corrupted. Most other times, i'd only get a week into the game before it corrupted.

I tend to avoid EA as much as possible now.

I have the lastest NHL and Madden games yet I still end up going back to NFL 2K5 and NHL 2K7. I dunno what EA has done for the past 9-10 years but "improving their presentation and gameplay" isn't on that list anywhere.

Even more so than NBA 2K15, this is my most looked forward to sports title.
The next gen systems with their processing power are going to be able to do impressive things in terms of physics and AI.
Or at least that is my hope.
