My best guess, given the uniform style, is that this image (posted to ebay by the Lelands folks) is from the spring of 1919. I suppose it could have been from after his playing career, but the reports say he wasn't well liked and I get the feeling they wouldn't want to invite him back for anything. Just sayin'.

Ryne Sandberg in 2014
What some fans don't realize is that Ryne Sandberg came up
through the Phillies minor leagues system. He played for the Phillies briefly in 1981 before being traded to the Cubs for the following season, where he had a Hall Of Fame playing career. His trade was one of the worst blunders in Phillies' franchise history. He returned to the Phillies as their AAA franchise manager in 2011, eventually becoming the Phillies skipper in August 2013 . |
