But again, there is of course no point in fighting MLB or complaining about them, in fact we have been in contact with them for quite a while because we do indeed want to get the game officially licensed, as this will help with growing our market. The discussion has always been very friendly. Anyway, that they asked us now to remove the nicknames was simply part of their annual house-keeping routine if you ask me, as at the same time they had Apple take down several MLB podcasts from iTunes. I guess if you're as big as MLB, you'd have to do this every once in a while, otherwise everybody will use their trademarks without permission, which of course is not very fair towards those who indeed pay for a proper license. And the MLB legal team cannot just sit around and drink coffee the whole day, right? So, it's all okay, nobody got sued or threatened. And we'll continue the friendly dialogue with MLB to hopefully get a proper license for OOTP 16 (without crippling the game, of course).

Alright. Markus has spoken. *lol* Have a great weekend guys!
Of course this will mean no suspensions or drug use

I don't know....but I just know I am not editing every team name in the game upon startup of a new league

EDIT: nobody's fault....this is just very unfortunate....and right at a time when OOTP was a bout to break through to a more mainstream market...but of course that's why MLB did what they did.

If your game crashes, why wouldn't you report it as a bug in the PT tool rather than posting 20 times complaining about it and then saying you're done with the game, which you got for free since you're on the beta team It's kind of your job to report crashes like that. You know Markus will fix them if you do so

I am in the process..Edit...by the way Lukas...this is the second time you have said this to me, and I will have you know I purchased the game in pre-order long before joining the BETA team.

EDIT: and from what I have read on the BETA board...Markus is already aware of it.

From what Markus has said, the hope is that they could get a deal whereby that would only apply to the MLB Quickstart.

It would be, yes, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. And a "real MLB" mode, even without suspensions, would probably help draw in more new customers than it would drive away old ones.

I see your point but how many human players will edit away a drug suspension to a player on their team.

Have you ever edited anything in game? I applaud you if not.

I don't fully understand how this all works but with the attention from MLB, is it possible they or MLBPA come back at some point and squelch efforts like the roster project or use of stadiums.

Obviously, it would be next to impossible to stop people from doing these things on their own but could stop OOTD from hosting links, promoting such upgrades and projects like the roster set that is included with the game?

It should be rather easy to make a hacked DB that brings the team names back.

But in any case, drug suspensions don't really work right in OOTP because of their randomness. I'd much prefer drug suspensions be removed entirely instead of running into a licensing problem with MLB.

Yeah drug suspensions have no logical basis currently. That's why I've never had them on. I don't understand the importance people place on them. They certainly don't add realism.

They probably could. Whether they will is a different matter.

I don't know if someone in this long thread has referenced it yet, but neither MLB nor the MLBPA really has much ground to make him remove real player names, given this: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2543720

My understanding is that that was the last word the law has had on the matter.
