Pictures of Retired Players
I've not found this question in the forums but then I'm probably just not finding the correct combination of keywords to search...
Is there a way to keep the pictures of retired players from updating? I'm working on a fictional historical league and wanted the oldest player pictures to be in sepia and from whatever team they last played for, then later players will be shown in B&W, and finally from the 1960s onward in color. The problem is, every time I update a team's ballcap and jersey file (to indicate changes over time) or change from sepia to B&W or color, it updates everyone's pictures, including those who are long dead and gone. I've tried using the "Update/Generate Player Pictures" setting as both "Always if needed" and "Each Jan 1st" and doesn't seem to make any difference. So my question is, how do I lock in the pictures of these retired players? |

I'm going to guess this isn't possible or no one else does this? I suppose it is one of those OCD things that I have to get just the way I want it or it will give me heartburn every time I see it :P
I just can't tolerate opening the profile of a guy who played in 1920 and see the picture of someone who has probably been dead for 40+ years wearing a crisp clean jersey from a team in 2014. Especially when that team has probably moved and been renamed since the guy last played anyway. Like pulling up Jackie Robinson's profile and seeing him in a modern-day LA Dodgers uniform. If it isn't possible to keep a retired player's picture from changing, I think turning off player pictures is the way to go. Is that what historical folks do already? Are those of you playing historical leagues turning off pictures or do you just ignore the discrepancies? |

When I go to check out my old players, they have their old uniforms and caps. My settings are "Create Player Pictures... On Demand" and "Update/Generate Players Pictures... Always if Needed."
I'm not sure if that makes any difference, but it works for me. The only catch is, sometimes old players don't have caps and uniforms on them... they're just blank (maybe I never looked at them when they were playing?). If that happens, you have to go into the Editor and click "Same Picture." He'll load up with the team's current cap and jersey. If you want to change it back to his old look, I suggest you edit the team's look to retro real quick, and reload the player pic again. Should solve the problem. Again, click "Same Picture" if you want his face to remain the same. This is a big one for me since I have a guy whose career ended when he was 25 and has the Pitcher of the Year award named after him (he would now be 138!), and I like seeing a pic of him in his prime.

Thanks, Hendu. Just knowing that it is possible is a huge relief for me. I really want to have pictures for the old timers, just not with modern uniforms. Your example is exactly why I want this to work as well.
I had the create pictures setting at "Player Creation" so maybe there's a difference there. I'll keep playing around with it since I know it is possible at least. I'll also keep that in mind about temporarily retro'ing the team's uniform on a case-by-case basis. As long as it will keep the settings and not change with each era, that should work fine. Thanks again
