Question What are your historical league preferences?

I was just wondering what options others liked on or off to create there perfect game? Do you prefer any advanced options? Do you use full minor league rosters? Block fictional players? What player development options do you use? What are some of the pro and cons of these options? etc.

I have started to play around with some of these but I was wondering in others had some recommendations to create a full, yet realistic historical league. Thanks in advance.

Gosh, those are tough questions to answer.

If you do a search you'll find a lot of discussion on this very subject through the past few years.

Really, I think you'll end up trying different ways of setting up your historical league until you feel the right balance.
Once you figure it out, it's a great way to play OOTP!

Only you will be able to tell what flavor of game you will enjoy most.

Experiment. Try several different formats. Use minor leagues, then use reserve rosters, etc., etc. You don't want the standard way, you want the way you enjoy most. Calibrate. Change everything out. Eventually you will find the flavor of the game that suits you best and that you like the most of all.

It's your game, make sure that you're playing it the best and most fun way for you.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

To build on what Wolf said...

There are so many options for all of us to play anyway we like. You might be a guy who wants the real life players to play very close to what they did in real life. You would use the "recalc" option.

Me, I don't dig that so much. I prefer to change history, so I play with the OOTP development engine on...

Since I'm building alternate histories, I can play with the ballparks. Don't like the deadball era? Lock in a different year's stats than the one you're playing.

I guess the best way to find what your looking for if you aren't sure is to post what you're looking for.

Experience has taught me that the best way to find what I'm looking for is not to have a preconceived notion of what that is.
