Why so sad?

Still pretty new to ootp, I have a relief pitcher who is angry at his role and his performance.... He is a recent call up, maybe 4 weeks ML time, has a .92 ERA in 19.2 innings. His expectations are ML reliever and he's happy with transactions (im assuming because of the recent call up) I'm just trying to figure out why this dude is angry. Any ideas? He's a hi stamina guy, was a minor league starter, but his expectations clearly say expected role reliever, any help would be appreciated

Is his name Alfredo Aceves? He might just be completely bonkers.

Oddities like this are why I play without personalities/morale.

If he was really angry for a long time in the minors, it could take a while for his overall morale rating to increase. The rating itself is actually just a number that gets translated into the text you see in the game, and my understanding is that it can only move a little bit each day, so his number was probably just really, really, really negative. If you want, you can go into the editor in commish mode and reset his morale to be something more neutral.

Because the game does not have an indicator for "petulant" and every bullpen in MLB has at least one of those guys.

If it were me, I'd just go with it. Maybe his dog pooped in his slippers. Every personality/mood factor need not have a baseball-related explanation, as far as I'm concerned.

Hence my Aceves reference. I am aware of this.

I could pull together a storyline where your PITA player is diagnosed bipolar, subsequently treated, becomes a great closer, struggles with his new fame, finally cracks and disappears, until a decade later when a lowly scout finds him playing in a townball league.

Or you could just turn off personalities / morale.

And here I thought I was the only one who thought that.

I prefer "fractious" or "recalcitrant" to "petulant" if you don't mind. Or even if you do.

The only time I really get upset about player mood is when some marginal guy gets called up to the majors, gets to play, and performs well for a stretch. And his mood is negative.

You can explain the under-the-hood mechanism but that doesn't make it believable.

Almost any other scenario -- including a guy who says he wants to be a relief pitcher, being a relief pitcher, and being angry -- I can imagine people like that.

Matt Stairs. He was lucky to even be in the big leagues and he was pissed off every second of his entire career, even when he was playing well. Sorry, hitting well. He didn't really "play". Steve Kemp was another one.

Surprised no one brought this up...on the pitching rotation screen, does he have an assigned role in the bullpen? This is something I've noticed over the past few years. Even if you're using him normally, if he has his role listed as "none specified" on that screen, "he" will take it to mean that he's riding the bench.

Since he's a hi stamina former AAA starter, i put him in a long relief with a secondary as middle relief. His stuff is 77, mov is 67 con 68, with a 71 stam (0-100 rating system). He's mainly there to save my better relievers when my starter gets lit up in the first few innings, or to mop up blowouts.
