Three Year Recalc

Looking for someone to answer question been looking around at

For a 3 year recalc, which 3 years are used

Say I call up 1980

Will the three years be in succession 1980, 81, 82

Or will 80 be the bridge for years 1979, 80, 81

Curious and I don't know the answer
