Cubs announce new coaches, scouting director, President of Baseball Operations

The new bench coach for the Cubs will be Brian Butterfield who recently served as third-base coach and infield instructor with the Boston Red Sox. He also has a history with new Cubs manager Torey Lovullo having worked with him in Boston.

The new hitting coach will be Jeff Manto who most recently served as hitting coach with the Chicago White Sox. Manto and Lovullo were teammates on the 1997 and 1998 championship squads with the Buffalo Bisons.

The new pitching coach will be Bill Castro who most recently served as an interim pitching coach for the Baltimore Orioles, but served on the Milwaukee Brewers coaching staff from 1992-2009.

The new scouting director is former Houston Astros GM Jeff Luhnow who replaces Jaron Madison who was moved to farm director. Luhnow worked in the St. Louis Cardinals scouting department from 2003-2011 and is credited with playing a major part in the team's successes in the minor leagues. The Cardinals won 5 minor league championships under his watch and had the best system-wide minor league record in 2010. From 2005-2007, the first 3 Cardinals drafts overseen by Luhnow produced 24 major league players, the most of any team during that timeframe. The Cubs hope that he can replicate that success in Chicago where their farm system is currently ranked #11 in the major leagues.

The new President of Baseball Operations is Jed Hoyer who replaces Theo Epstein after Epstein left the Cubs to become the new scouting director for the Atlanta Braves.
