Setting Your Market Sizes - Jay's System!

OK, guys -- I just wanted to have this post available because the guide we had to this was for a prior version and I know it isn't the easiest find. So I wanted to make it available again, and explain my rationale behind it.

Everyone always worries how to setup their initial financial markets. When you use the Team Draft Budget in the Inaugural Draft -- you DEFINE your markets. Let me explain.

When you are on the financials screen in league creation, you'll see all the areas for salaries, and scouting budget, and all of that. Your media contracts, merchandise, etc.

Well, here's the important part. "Average Payroll." Take that number and multiply it by the number of major league teams you have. You now know the exact amount of money for payroll in your league, as defined by the money assigned!

OK, the next important part. It's your fictional league, YOU know who has the money. But I need you to score it.

For example, for my World Baseball League quickstart, I used a scale of 3-13. William "Bill" Gates III and the Redmond Apples got 13 points. Bernard Arnault of France got a 10 with the Expos.

Michele Ferrero of Rome got a 9.

OK, so I scored every team on that 3-13 scale (poor Santo Domingo and Caracas) and I wrote them down! I then TOTAL those scores. Now, take that big total of money you got earlier, and divide it by that total score. Now you know how many dollars each "market point" is worth. All you do at that point is multiple that Market Point $ Amount by the amount of points in each individual market. Write them down.

Now you've got your player budgets. The game will assign you more money after for expense and media contracts and the like, but if you look at your Financial Report directly after your draft, you will see that your budgets are now IN ORDER of YOUR market sizes.

YOURS. Your game. Your league. YOUR OOTP. Man, I love this freakin game.
