Expansion Draft
I was hoping to drum up support for improvements in the expansion draft setup this year, but I must care more than most.
PROBLEMS: the last bunch of expansion drafts allowed each team to protect a certain number of players, then have 1 picked, then protect 3 more. The game doesn't do this; it's a single protection list and that's it. The AI makes odd decisions in who it protects, even with scouting on 100 accurate. I've seen 15 man protection lists with 3 catchers on them, low rated MR's protected over AAA prospects, cleanup hitters unprotected, etc.
MY CURRENT WORKAROUND: I set up an expansion w/ 15 rounds, 1 player per team, protect 15. i write down who was taken, then I kill the league. Then I start another league, create the 2 new teams, trade the players chosen in round 1. then I protect 18 per team, and do 1 round. I repeat a 3rd time protecting 21. Each time, I have to go thru the protection lists as commish and manually update them until I am satisfied. This is A LOT of work, and I always miss something.
RECOMMENDATION: Have a setup that allows multiple steps in the process, allowing teams to pull back more players after a player is taken. If this doesn't work, allow the human a way to make overall recommendations that the AI uses when assembling its lists, such as "protect no more than 2 RPs, or project no more than 2 players of the same position"
Has anyone found a better way to do a realistic expansion draft?
