Questions for prospective buyer
1. I played the demo and didn't get a single email. Is this just something that happened?
2. How much work is there to do in between seasons to prepare for the next season? 3. How easy is it to truly replay baseball history bringing up rookies, etc. when the do arrive? 4. Statiscally speaking, how accurate are replayed season based on actual stats? 5. Those who have played Baseball Mogul line, where does this game crush baseball mogul? I've loved Baseball Mogul but it's time seems to have come to an end with me. My gut feeling is that this is the game to get. |

1. you'll get them eventually. sometimes more than you care to read!
2. if you have coaches/scouts on, you'll have to hire them. otherwise, its just free agent stuff. 3. you can import players based on history. So..if you import them from their first full year, then you'll get pretty close. If you import them from the first time they made an appearance, they'll be a few years behind since they'll need to develop in the minors. (this is a guess, since I don't do historical replays) 4. Check the dynasty forum, but from what I've read, it'll vary. Remember, OOTP5 is a simulater, not a replay engine. The strength of the product is its unpredictability 5. Not applicable for me...sorry.

1. Don't worry about email, you receive emails from everyone. I have played so many season's that I ignore most emails. It is probably somehthing that happened.
2. There is a little work involved (if you want to win). You have to sign coaches/make trades/sign free agents/make trades/Amature Draft (of course this can be moved to june)/run spring training/make trades/work your minor leagues/make trades and proceed to next season. 3. With the databases availble, it is easy. 4. Stats maybe a little weak. There are so many varibles that Babe Ruth might not even hit 100 hrs (he might get injured our something). That is what makes the game so much fun. Of course barring injuries and some other in game shananigans the players stats end up close, +/- a little 5. Never played Baseball Mogul, but I will tell you this is the game to get.

1. Yes. You will get emails when you get trade offers, when your scout thinks someone should be brought up, when the players are unhappy, when the players want contract extensions.
2. Well, you have to sign scouts, if you have them on. Then, there is the FA signing period. Also, there is the amateur draft, though there is an option to hold the draft in June. Last, there is spring training. I never really replay seasons, or played Baseball Mogul, so I don't really know the answer to the last 2 questions.

I played Mogul a little, and found it to be a poor comparison to OOTP in general- The only thing worthwhile is the financial engine, where OOTP could really use some improvement.

Wow...I'm impressed just by the fact that someone else in Dayton is as obsessed with sports sims as myself.

Advantages of OOTP5 over Mogul
1) OOTP has a much more comprehensive minor league system 2) OOTP allows in-game management 3) A real draft in which you select the players, rather than just taking what you are given 4) there IS such a thing as left-handers and right-handers. Where Mogul has the edge 1) You have to put money into medical, player scouting, player development, and this actually impacts the game 2) You can build a stadium in Mogul (although you cant take a loan out to do it, which makes it VERY unrealistic) 3) Mogul has the cities/population models which affect your fan base, draw, etc ----- The while trade block thing in Mogul has me torn. IMO its WAY to easy to trade off players in Mogul, since you can get a list of offers, pick the best one, and trade a player instantly. I would like to see something like this in OOTP but somehow made to take longer. Offers from some (not always all) teams would begin to trickle in after a few days and over the weeks that follow the offers would be updated/removed as time went on. ----- I likely missed a bunch, but this is off the top of my head, and its been a couple of months since I played Mogul ----- EDIT: Markus, add the three things listed under Mogul has the edge to OOTP and I may never buy another version of Mogul! This may be a silly question, but was the 'Controlled by' field of the team that you managed in the 'Team Setup' screen set 'Human'? The computer controlled teams don't have e-mail in their inbox.

1. Not sure why, I've not played the demo myselg.
2. IMO not really alot usually takes 15-20 minute tops I'd say. 3. If you play historically the game will prompt you for this. 4. Fairly accurate though the game is more built for "what if's" rather than "this is how it was". 5. I tested BM for the first 3 years it was on the market and IMO VERY little has changed. It is not bad financially but as far as the overall game goes to me it is "baseball lite", very little substance.

"first 3 years it was on the market"
Which years would those be, Kuffrey? Just curious if you've even played it in the last couple of years. Even so, it is light compared to OOTP5. That is, in fact, why people buy it instead of OOTP5, believe it or not. To some, OOTP5 just bogs you down in too many details. Its not a bad game. With a more complete minor league system and lefty-right splits it would be great. For those who like to play the games instead of sim them, though, they will not be happy. Kinda hit it on the head right there. Baseball Mogul was light but fun in it's own simply way because the games simmed quickly and you could fly.
My one problem was that I could bend the rules like no other. I would get massive amounts of free agents and at the end of the season, sell them all for cash to get out of the red. Next season, buy more free agents, and continue doing this for seasons. From what I hear OOTP5 refuses to allow you to do that. Is there even any trading for cash? |

No trading for cash in OOTP5 and, IMO, if it can't be done in such a way as to prevent abuses like the one you have described, then it should not be added at all.
My biggest complaint about OOTP5 is the speed. Its is just WAY to slow, especially the whole free agent process. It also saves WAY to often. If you sim one game at a time it will save after every single game. This would be fine is the save did not take so long (a few seconds is too long IMO). |

Yes, I've played the last few versions and I'm bored within an hour with the game. Just no substance "IMO".
