Question On Star Ratings - Anyone Else Seeing This?
I have now simmed 3 total seasons. At the end of each season it seems that every player gets a start added to their potential and actual ratings. So all my half star potential players are suddenly one and a half star potential.
It seems that it goes back to normal once the season starts. Is anyone else seeing this? |

Yeah I'm seeing this as well, no idea why it happens but it is quite annoying.

I think I found a solution!
I've been playing with "Overall rating based on AI evaluation" turned on, and I've found that if you go to global settings and then turn "Overall rating based on AI evaluation" off and then on, it immediately fixes the problem. I'd be willing to bet it would work the other way too – if you play with that setting off, then turn it on and then off. |

Yep, that does seem to fix it in a pinch, at least temporarily. Does it stop the ratings from going back up again the next offseason? EDIT: Nope. But at least it's fixable manually. Hardly game-breaking but a bit annoying.

Does this only happens to no-hopers and minor league roster filler ie half star types? At all levels? What happens to significant prospects say 3-5 stars and 25-man roster types? I'm not disputing what you see but are you sure no players decline in the offseason?
Keep in mind that stars are a very fuzzy overall rating that is relative not absolute. The natural churn of player movement that happens in every offseason will affect that rating. So will player development, aging and talent change randomness (TCR). For example, a player in AA may benefit from other players being promoted to AAA, some being released and less talented players being moved up from A. However the door swings both ways on that so a rookie or A ball phenom landing in AA could decrease his rating just as easily. You say it goes back to normal by the start of the next season. If that occurs for 3 seasons how do you see any player development?

I'd like to say I'll look later and analyze the original post, but it probably won't happen, so I'll wager a guess as long as I'm here. At some point in the season, using the AI Eval settings, it probably is reaching a tilting point where it can register more weight to Last Season percentages and less to This Season, etc... In addition, because it's more global in nature, and new players have entered the arena, marginal players may indeed appear more highly rated than they did until the season begins, or the next tilting point.

Good questions!
I went in and simmed through a few test seasons, here is what I noticed in response to your questions: 1. It happens at all levels ML and minors, with all teams. 2. All the half star players become one and a half star, all the one star players become two start players, etc... it continues this way until you get to the 4.5 and 5 star players which seem to not change. 3. Both current and potential star rating is impacted. It is clear not the natural ebb and flow that comes with scouting updates and talent change. It is too wide spread. So basically all players are getting an extra current and potential start during the off season, unless they are 4.5 - 5 star already. The "phantom star" then goes away when the new season starts. So it's essentially an off-season only issue. Let me know if you have any more questions and I can do some more research. |

Obviously, when you shut off an Eval, things change, and when it get turned on again, you need to let the game know to apply those changes. IMHO. I'll stand by my theory. FWIW

What's really the main difference if you play with this checked vs. not checked? Currently I'm running my league with it not checked?
Any huge difference? |

I'm still not understanding something. There must be a number of mid 30's players who decline from 3 or 3.5 stars to 2,5 and 3. Are you saying you don't see any of this?
What about your development updates? They are 60%-70% negative. Pick a couple of players and post a screenshot of their development page.

I use the setting to base on AI eval and I see a lot of .5 going to 1.5 but it is definitely not happening to every player. I also see plenty of players who drop a half point in ratings and overall. Not sure why my game would be different but figured I'd throw my experience in.

Then it is evaluating the players by ratings, not ratings coupled with the percentages/influences of the AI Evaluation settings. Keep in mind we're talking about the OVR/POT rating of the player, not his individual skill ratings. Further, when you do check the box, you can check either compared to players of his position OR all players. That changes things, too.

OP
1) Please post your Ai evaluation settings. 2) Is the change happening during the New Year sim? When you see the change is there a mass retiring of players from the League? 3) Does the Star drop coincide with the release of the Draft Pool?

I'd like to add that I have this happening, and I play without AI eval.

Not sure if this is entirely related to this problem, but, not if this is a bug or WAD, but when I choose to use my scouts rating instead of OSA, by default, I notice that I have to switch back to OSA and then to my scout for the ratings to refresh. This is frustrating because I have to do it for every player when I want to see their current scouted stats.
For example I'll look at a player and it will be defaulted in the top right to show my scouts rating (im playing as manager of West Michigan White Caps Single A), so the Detroit Tigers scout rating. It will show a contact of 8, or whatever, but then if I switch to OSA and back to the scout it will show a new contact rating. I have to do this every single time with every single player to see the updated scout numbers. Anyone know how to fix this? |
