Auto draft drafting impossible to sign players

I've gone through two drafts now. In the past I would draft the first five or so rounds and then let the AI finish drafting for my team. In version 15, I've done the same thing and in both drafts, the AI has signed players who are labeled as "impossible" to sign. Of course I can't sign them and since its in the later rounds I don't get a compensation pick.

Would it be possible to keep the AI from drafting players marked as "impossible" so I don't have 4 or 5 wasted picks each draft?

But if you're auto-drafting, then every team is auto-drafting. Someone has to pick the impossible guys, so it makes sense that you pick your share, and so does the AI. It's realistic too; real life teams only sign about half their picks, so they're picking several nearly impossible signs each year (along with some college filler they don't bother to ink to a contract).

That's a valid point. My one concern would be the default dtraft for the MLB setup is still 35 rounds. That was always based on being able to sign all your draft picks. Should the default draft be extended to 50 rounds to allow for more unsigned draft picks?

Maybe, I'm not sure. 40 rounds should be enough as that's what the real draft is. You won't hurt anything if you try it.

I hope that a future edition of OOTP fleshes out scouts more so we can see not only what kind of players scouts favor, but also whether they are more willing to roll the dice on tough signings in the amateur draft. Maybe even make this preference dynamic and have it change based on the size of the bonus pool, etc.

Real life teams only sign about 20 picks a year, so if by autodrafting, you're getting five unsignable guys, a 25-round draft should be plenty.

20 is pretty much the lowest a rl team will ever sign. Most sign 30+ and also 5-10 udfa's.

Just to go through a few teams last year:

Angels - Signed 39 of 40.

Astros - 32 of 40.

A's - 31 of 40.

Blue Jays - 28 of 40.

Braves - 26 of 40.

Brewers - 31 of 40.

Cardinals - 37 of 40.

Cubs - 24 of 40.

Dbacks - 33 of 40.

Dodgers - 28 of 40.

Anyway, you get the idea. Then add 5 to 10 udfa's for each team and you're looking at 30-50 guys signed through the draft system per team per year.
