Question

Hi everyone!

So I'm completely new to OOTP (in general.) I came across this game randomly while I was searching for simulation games, and I decided to pre-order OOTP 15. I love it so far, but it's kind of hard to get used to, and I still have a lot to learn, which brings me to my first question.

So, I started a standard game with the Cleveland Indians (my team! even though they stink haha), I think I have some of the basics down, but I can't figure out how to option someone to AAA who is on my roster but out of minor league options. Do I have to waive him outright and then demote him? Or do I just demote him to AAA. When I try the latter, it tells me that the player is out of minor league options and must clear waivers. So do I have to wait to get him off my roster? I'm trying to make room for someone coming off the DL.

Also, if anyone has some general tips for me, I would appreciate it.

Players out of options must be designated for assignment (made available via waivers to all teams), and clear waivers before being assigned to a minor league affiliate.

This game might look like scaling Mt Everest at first, but it's really not that daunting. I have a couple of tips to help you out...
  1. Try playing as a minor league team's manager at first to get used to the interface and game concepts. That way, you focus your time on a smaller subset of responsibilities.
  2. Read the OOTP14 manual which is the currently published version. It covers a lot of the game concepts in enough detail that they're useful in this year's game.
  3. Post questions in the OOTP15 "New to the Game" forum for quick answers to early questions. We're all very glad to help out.
  4. There are some differences, although very few, between IRL professional baseball and OOTP15, so it's a good idea to Google as many definitions as you need.
  5. Don't be afraid to be aggressive at first. Even if you make mistakes, it's best to just start over, and learn from those mistakes.
