Is it worth it to buy OOTP5?!?!

I spent 30 so bucks on OOTP4 only to see OOTP5 released not to long later.

My questions, should I spend 35 bucks on OOTP5 if I have OOTP4, is it that much better? And how long before an OOTP6 is expected out?

Yes it is worth the upgrade cost.

OOTP6 is not expected out until approx April 2004.

Yes, it's definately worth it. Interface-wise, OOTP5 is leaps and bounds ahead of OOTP4.

I don't know.. I dislike v.5 personally and while it did address many short comings from v.4 I think it created a whole bunch of new ones.

Ie. while the interface improved in some areas (ie. player links) it takes a step back in many others (ie. it is more cumbersome to use so that you can't quickly flip through different team pages such as player development and must X out each one as you go).

Ok maybe saying I dislike it is a bit much since I am playing it right now over version 4 but I think it was merely a step sideways with a slight step forward rather than any significant progress in the series.

Would I buy it? Probably since I don't regret owning both and it is a long way from v.6 still... but I don't think this version is a MUST buy if you have v.4.

I vote with the worth it crowd Also keep in mind if you want to keep your current dynasty going that you can import it from v4 into v5 and then v6 when it comes out. I don't believe you'll be able to import v4 directly to v6, something to consider.

Worth the cash?

If the game isn't worth the cash at this point, then wait a little longer for another patch. It seems that .400 studios improves the game play, along with the bells and whistles of games with each update/upgrade. Although, I heartedly recommend purchasing the game at this point.

Try the demo and decide yourself if its better. Obviously most people that visit these boards think the game is good, if not they would have quit playing it long ago and moved to other interests.

It was worth the upgrade for me for 2 reasons--the almanac (I could never get cato's history utility to work correctly) and the improved player development (much more realistic to me than ootp4's was.)

Once one buys V5, where can you get all the add ons you need? Like rosters, facepacks, etc?

i agree the player development is much better then version 4. Version 4 was pretty predictable, in this version i've had stud draftees bust into career minor leaguers, and no hope draftees turn into stars of the league, often not blooming until around 30 years old. And with the alamnac and new interface i think its worth the upgrade. However it does sim a little slower, and that took a while to get used to. It also kept me from getting into this version at first, but once i did i haven't been able to turn it off.

Anyway, it's well worth the buy. Personally I'm a newbie to the series, version 5 being my first version, but I have to agree with everyone else in that it's very much so worth the purchase.

I think it's worth buying 5 over 4. I had 4 for almost a year before I purchased 5 and I don't regret it. 5 has a lot of nice features like the new interface and the manager mode and stuff. It's a fun game all around.

The facepacks/logos/etc work for V5 as well as they do for V4, since they are just images outside the game that match to names. And leagues can be imported from v4 to v5, so you won't lose any of the players anyways.

Definately worth buying, IMHO.

The new features are great, not to mention the fact that if you still have things you want fixed in V4, it's likely not to happen (I don't think Marcus is still working on V4 patches..), whereas if there's something still bothering you with the new version, it'll likely be fixed via latest patch.

Just curious but wasn't ootp4 sold for 19.95$ for like 3 months before ootp5 came out?

This game is worth every penny.
Still as flexible as ever, even more so, i.e. skins.
The game is more enjoyable to play out with minor added sounds (at least it makes a difference for me...especially after adding my sounds mod!)
The interface is somewhat more cumbersome (having to exit out of certain team pages) but they seem more complete and better over all to look at IMO.
Get it.

I still use both versions.

For my fictional and current roster leagues, OOTP5 is fantastic.

For my solo historical league, which I am very meticulous about and take my time running (and am really in no hurry to complete as this is my "big one" that I will treasure for years) I still use OOTP4 combined with Cato's and Wallman's utilities. This league uses a modified version of the IatricSB Career Averages database, so player development is not a big issue with this league.

that's what I thought, I don't pretend to know what he meant by his statement I just thought it sounded like one of those people who wanted ootp5 for free because they bought ootp4 like six months ago ... there were alot of those when ootp5 was released

oh yeah and most baseball games for any console throughout the history of time have come out around the start of baseball season, so when you buy a baseball game in December or January it's a pretty safe assumption that the new version of it will be out sometime between March and May .....
