MLB Historical Replay Question

For those of you who run historical replays I have a question:

Do you import the history up to the year you started or do you sim from Day 1 to whichever year you are taking over.

I am thinking of taking over the expansion Blue Jays in 1977 and I'm not sure which way to go with this.

Part of me wants MLB history intact up until I take over and then it gets recreated and another part of me wants to start simming from 1901 and completely re-write history.

For those who have done these replays, can you share your experiences, the good and the bad with each option.

Thanks!

What I usually do is start simming at least 5 years before I want to start. I find this necessary for getting the total number of players on a team's roster up to a decent size. This is particularly important if you want to start out with an expansion team and redo the expansion draft.

If I am starting before WWII, I will usually start in 1901 and sim to the mid-1930's; take over the worst team and then select (hopefully) Dimaggio and/or Williams and go on from there.

Thanks for the response.

That's usually the plan that I follow, although I think I'm going to sim all the way to the 1970's and take over the Blue Jays in 1977. I've tried to do teams from the 1930's and 1950's, but for some reason it's never held my attention for long. I think part of it is because Mantle and Williams and Aaron are legends (IMO) and that the era in question is almost untouchable. The other is that I want to jump in when the bulk of the guys I liked as a kid were just coming into the league (Murphy, Dawson, Carter, Morris). I'm more excited about this than I have been about any other historical dynsaty I've created. If I don't enjoy it, I will 'resign' as GM of Toronto and sim until 199-something and take over the worst team.

Thanks!
