Will OOTP14 work with a Windows 8 Tablet?

I am about to essentially buy a tablet just to play this game ... if it works. I am looking at a Dell Venue Pro 8. (Dell Venue 8 Pro Windows 8.1 HD Tablet Details | Dell)

That's utilizing Windows 8.1 Pro, so it will run, as will all legacy applications. Only concern would be that the desktop version of OOTP is likely not optimized for touch, so no telling what you may experience there.

Functional, but obnoxious. It's a little inconsistent with how many touches it needs. If you can get a wireless mouse to function with it I would highly recommend it (mine is a USB plug-in that cost about 15 dollars at target).

I don't have a Windows tablet but just curious, could he get a touch pad (I think Logitech makes one)? I ask because I'm guessing he will be playing in bed and a touch pad would be easier than a mouse.

Yep, that's the same as having a mouse. I ran it on my Surface Pro 2 just to check how OOTP worked with touch - you'll definitely want some form of a mouse, as the touch is pretty difficult. Game runs well on the SP2 though.

It works great with a $20 Bluetooth mouse.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
