Problem: Words No Longer Showing Up On Game

All of a sudden, none of the words are showing up anywhere on my game:

No words show up anywhere in the games I load, no matter what screen I go to. I have tried closing the game and restarting, and rebooting the computer, and neither of these fixed the problem.

Does anyone recognize this and have a fix for it?

Did you modify any skins or fonts from what comes with the game?

Did you try a reinstall?

Did anything else happen to the league, like a crash or something that may have corrupted the file?

I already know that reinstalling the game can fix a parade of horribles. I was hoping that someone would recognize this specific problem and let me know whether they could fix it without reinstalling. Is it a corrupt .exe file? Or is it a .dat file problem and I am ****ed? That kind of thing.

Anyone?

Well, I don't think it's the .exe file. I tried reinstalling it and still the same problem.

I don't think he meant anything. It was f-f-funny, made me think of The Who. Your problem isn't so funny.

Did you by any chance delete messages and/or other files? Even then it shouldn't be so empty. Do you have a backup to restore? Sorry i can't be of more help.

Just my imitation of Roger Rabbit. Remember "P-p-p-lease..." No back thoughts.

Honestly, I think the problem can be fonts. Have you tried changing skin or something else?

Make sure that there are fonts in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 14\data\fonts folder. In particular, I think you want to make sure that "regular.ttf" is there.

All my fonts are there.

None of this has anything to do with skins. I can't change anything--I can't DO anything--because I can't see anything, because there are no words showing up anywhere in the game, on any screen.

I guess I can only reinstall once I get back from vacation.

Try deleting your skin.bin file for the skin you're using. These are located in the individual skin folders.

OOTP will rebuild it the next time you start the game.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not what happened. It just loaded another skin and showed no letters on that one, either. And when I "deleted" all skin.bin files, I got this:

Well, I have just uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and again, I have no words showing up anywhere:

Am I really the first person in the history of planet Earth that this has happened to? Has it really never happened to anyone else, ever?

Did you also delete the folder sub structure in program files before the reinstall?

I hadn't before, but I reinstalled, uninstalled, removed the folder, reinstalled, same problem.

Also, I cannot uninstall in the normal way. When I go to Program Files, Out Of The Park Developments is not listed. I had to uninstall through Add Remove Programs. And then when I reinstalled and saw it didn't work, I went back to uninstall through Add Remove Programs, and the game wasn't showing up there, either. So there was no way to uninstall the game anymore, other than restoring the system to a previous point. Which I did, successfully uninstalled, tried your suggestions which obviously did not work, and now if i want to uninstall the game again, I will have to system restore again.

It's all very sweet, isn't it?

Yeech.

I don't think OOTP is the problem here.

Between this and the problem you had a while ago, I really think there might be something quite wrong with your PC, most likely a nasty virus.

Once when I had a quite virulent virus I had lots of weird and unexplained stuff like this happening in multiple programs. I can't help but think that's the most likely answer.

You're right. I figured out the problem, and it was completely my fault, not the game.

Long story short, I accidentally erased the fonts in the C:\Users\[user name]\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 14/fonts folder. Once I realized this and figured out how to restore the fonts, everything appears to be working fine.

The only potential glitch, again of my doing, is that I reinstalled the game several times and now I have to remember all the database settings and in-game settings, but I'll probably do that.

So eriqjaffe had it completely right, except upon installation my copy of the game dumped my Out of the Park Developments game files under My Documents instead of under Program Files (x86), which I don't know why, but I did not make the connection at the time.

I appreciate everyone's help on this. Now I can resume my work. Thanks!
