I love OOTP5 because of its simplicity and the fact that it's portable; I can have one directory I can move to different computers & operating systems. In this manner I've been running a fictional Atlanta team full of supermen like Sidd Finch & Roy Hobbs (although the pitching staff also includes the Three Stooges) for years. I've gotten pretty fond of these boys over the seasons.
Tonight I sat down with the demo versions of every edition of OOTP from 6 to 13, exporting and then importing, until I had the Hobbs League running under 14. I didn't think it'd be possible, but I'm in the middle of my first game right now.

Very cool. Is there any other game similar to OOTP where that could be done?

The only game I play was started in v4 (2002) and imported into every version since. It will be imported into v16 next month and continued. I play out every inning of every game at a nice slow pace. I will be starting the 2027 season in v16.
To me it is the BEST feature of OOTP and the reason I have bought every new version since I found the game. |

A nine-version update? Now that's awesome.
![]() And I am keeping my only remaining dynasty in OOTP12 right there for fear of breaking something.

I am happy you were able to do this. I am interested in saving some old games too in the same way. I never tried because I always thought that it was not possible for a number of reasons, but the main reason was that the pitching engine and ratings changed completely at some point, so, for example, when you import pitchers under the "old" system they will not have any "stuff" ratings under the "new" system, among other problems. Perhaps someone else can pinpoint when that change occurred. In any event, I am going to try exactly what you did this weekend. Thanks!

If your league in 12 is a historical replay, keep it right there. That's where it needs to be to work correctly with real lineups and real transactions.

I have an old 6.5 league that I had played for 30 seasons that I keep thinking about trying to bring forward to 14. Glad to hear its possible.

It took about 30 minutes, not including the time to download all those demo versions from the ftp site. It takes a minute to install each one in order; that's the bulk of the process.
If you're thinking of doing it one thing that tripped me up was: You import your favorite league files from the last version. Then you immediately go the main league screen and do 'league backup'. I had forgotten to *make the newly imported league the current one* before exporting. I had to start from scratch from v5 again when I realized I'd done that. It's an otherwise straightforward if tedious process. Again I say, I'm amazed it worked. I mean, going up nine versions, 6 through 14... Just wow. Playing it in 14 *does* seem to be different though-- Finch's ERA should not be 3.12. It should be below 1. Roy Hobbs has only 1 HR, but then it's only April 11th

I actually need to do something like this for one of my mods and thank you for letting me know it's possible.
My stadium chart has been reworked since the last time the stadium exporter/importer worked with the game. I need to create a league in a version of the game the stadium exporter works with. Then reimport the ballparks into a league in that version. Making a parks.dat file that includes all the stadiums in the database and then walk it up to OOTP14. So the parks.dat file will work in any current league. Or somebody can just make an exporter that works with the current parks.dat file.

Thanks to everyone who commented. It does indeed work bu the results seem to get a little skewed.
The idea is to have fun, though, which I'm definitely doing
