Inaugural Draft Woes
So I did an inaugural draft, got 100 players, but most of them have major league contracts. What do I do?? I can't put them all on the 40man roster. How do I get these guys into the minors where they belong?

If they have option years remaining, you should be able assign them to the minors without a problem.
If they're out of option years, then they'd have to clear waivers. I suppose that you might be able to edit them to get them on your minor league rosters too. But I'm not sure about that. |

Okay, so I'm waiving all these players to get them down to the minors.
They are getting picked up by other teams. What was the point of the draft again? |

Well, I don't play fictional or contemporary leagues much, but you have to pay attention to the players you're drafting, their salaries or contract demands, service time, etc. I got burned on those things when I first started playing OOTP, so don't feel bad. Sometimes you have to do some test leagues to figure this stuff out.
Or, you can always delete all service time for players after you create your league. Then no one has any service time to worry about. To me, if you're creating a brand new fictional baseball league, this makes more sense anyway. Service time would only apply if your fictional league was somehow part of the major leagues, like a third major league, and it was subject to the agreement that governs the NL and AL. If you're actually running the MLB but doing an inaugural draft or something like that, then you can still delete all service time, or you can simply pay careful attention to players' service time and the contracts they'll have when drafting. Sounds like your draft monies or league minimum allowed for a greater number of choices than default, but I don't know. What I would surmise is if you're enduring the waiver process, then so are the AI teams with those over and above the 40-Man, probably removing them from the 40-Man in the process. If they're picking up yours, maybe try to pick up theirs. In a lot of cases, following an inaugural, they're waving guys with no ML contract, so you may be able to fill holes and lower expenses at the same time. FWIW

I'm just going to let it happen and move on with the waivers and resigning players to minor league contracts, but seriously, I thought the draft would take care of that stuff for me. IE, after round 40, nobody getting drafted should have an ML contract regardless of what they want. They're a 41st round draft pick at best. Total crap. Ugh. Hey, that's a great idea for a 'rule'. A little check box that says, "Every pick past round 40 will not have a major league contract". That would be spectacular. |

You'd need to get rid of service time and then reset contracts.

I am unhappy with the results of that particular move. All my players have first year 500k contracts. Weird.
Anyway, yeah, I'll just be more careful about drafting I guess. |

Turn off waivers for the first week, see if the AI gets everyone down, then turn them back on. It is not ideal but it may get the job done.

I might use that in the online league we're about to do, just to make the roster organization go smoothly. I already lost all my minors guys in this particular league and I'm not planning to go back and get them. Everyone down there is horrid anyway. Heck, my main team isn't much better. :P
