Custom teams in playoffs - how to?
So I've set up a nice custom playoff schedule which works great (top 4 teams in a single division league advance).
Where I have problems is when 2 teams are tied, especially when 2 teams are tied for 4th. OOTP schedules a tiebreaker game, which I don't want as I want to sue regular season head to head record to break ties. Is this is what I do: 1. Delete extra tie-breaking game in the schedule 2. Advance to "playoffs begin" date so I can view the playoff games scheduled in the schedule editor 3. Adjust ALL the playoff games between team 1 (division champ) and team 4 (team who had the worst head to head) to be between team 1 and team 5 (team who tied with team 4 but had the best head to head against team 4) Will the playoff coverage screen show the right teams? Any help much appreciated for this. Effectively I want to provide manual seeding to teams where ties exist and ensure the playoiff schedule works appropriately.

Nope. I'm pretty sure that if OOTP has scheduled a tie-breaker game, then it (or something like it - you could change the date on which it was scheduled) would need to be played before you could advance to the end of the season. I'm not exactly sure what would happen, but I don't think what you would want to do in #'s 1 and 2 would work.
As for #3, although you can alter the playoff schedule to a degree, among the things you cannot do is change who plays who. Well... you can from the perspective of making the changes to the schedule, but once OOTP determines that the first round of the playoffs is (as an example) LA vs Philly and Boston vs Texas, you cannot change those matchups. If you do, the games could be played, but OOTP would not track the winners in a "team A leads team B, 2 games to 1" format, and you would not be able to advance to the next round... At least that's my experience with monkeying around with this in OOTP12. I haven't tried it in OOTP14 but I don't think this has changed. |

Thanks, that is what I'm experiencing at the moment as well.
Fingers crossed in OOTP 15 we can get something where we can manually select who plays who in the playoffs for situations such as these. If anyone else has anything else to add please do so.

One thing you can do is let the tiebreaker game be played, and if the team that shouldn't advance wins the game, go into task manager and close OOTP from there so it doesn't save. Or you could use commish mode to temporarily take over the team that should lose and have them play just backups, but then that messes up the stats a bit.
