Injury, fielding and other miscellaneous ratings

Lotta questions...

So it looks like when guys get hurt, that can lower their injury rating ... makes sense. Does it ever go the other way? If an injury-prone guy manages to stay healthy for a year or two, will his rating get better? And is there any way to mitigate injury risk -- e.g. move an injury-prone catcher or SS to 1B or OF, give extra rest, etc? Do pitch counts affect injuries?

Looking in the profile, it's easy to see how position ratings work ... 1 point added per game (or 9 innings?) of experience, max 200. Does this "fade" ... If a guy plays a few games at a position and then doesnt for ten years, does he eventually lose that skill? If so, what's the fade rate?

Is there really no way to raise IF/OF range or catcher ability? Its pretty common IRL for teams to take a prospect with a good arm but not enough foot speed or bat and try him out at catcher ... But it looks like in OOTP that can't happen unless he already has a catcher rating/arm. Seems like an oversight to me.

For that matter, why aren't ratings like bunting and base running improvable? These are mental skills that players IRL do work on and improve at.

Any thoughts?

These are great questions. I will take a shot but I cannot be definitive on most of them.

It is my belief that injury rating ("wrecked," etc.) is based on injury experience (which in turn depends on his injury proneness ratings - you can see them in the player profile if you click Editor, as commissioner). I have never seen nor heard of a situation whereby the ratings reverse themselves over time.

Nor have I ever heard of position experience fading, either. What does fade, of course, are the basic defensive ratings, with age.

My understanding is that these ratings are set "at birth" in this game, presently. If a player has range or ability, then playing him at a new position gives him a rating at that position which improves over time up to a certain point. The basic ratings don't change, however, except with time and they go down only. That's at least how I understand it; maybe somebody else will know more.

I don't think these are in the game, yet.

Any thoughts?
Yeah. You had some good ones.
