Coincidence?

I started a new 2013 with updated September rosters. I am the GM of the dodgers. I played probably the first 25 to 30 games and was absolutely atrocious. I was about 10 games under .500 and my team was dead last in hitting with .221 batting average. Pretty much every statistical in hitting I was dead last.

My owner was outraged so I was thinking that I was going to be fired, so I started simming one day at a time and suddenly my team started hitting. I am now 4 games over .500, my average has crept to around the .250 range and I am at about the 58 games played mark. Anyone see this. I know it isn't a large sample size, but I found it very curious that as soon as I stopped playing the games, everything changed.

Oh and to add on to that, it wasn't my pitching. I had the top ERA in the league and was rated #1 in defensive efficiency whatever that means. I was literally getting shut out every other game by average pitchers for the most part.

Coincidence. I think most would agree that actually playing out games is advantage human. The AI in OOTP is good but it still makes in-game decisions that humans might dispute.

Now it could be that you are just a lousy manager, but we don't want to go there right now.

Definitely agree. When I'm simming games and start to go on an extended losing streak, I start managing the games myself. It's not because I'm Joe Maddon that I'm able to get the team going in the right direction again -- it's just because AI manager can't measure up to a reasonably competent human manager.

Not knocking the game AI -- it's really quite good imo. Sounds like OP's experience is fluky, and I bet if he continues managing games himself, he'll start getting better results than simming.

Sounds pretty much like how the real Dodgers season went. That's baseball.
