Can you expand the NHL?

If I bought the game, would I be able to expand the NHL for the 2016-17 season? Say, I wanted to add Seattle and Las Vegas to the league, would I be allowed to do so?

No expansion for now.

It should be available down the road .

Read the New patch/Update Info thread that's located down the first page.

I wanted to put a team in San Diego for the 1966-67 season(one year before the 6 team expansion). Also wanted too approve the Pittsburgh Hornets as expansion team with the Pittsburgh Penguins going in limbo.

Expansion might be the single biggest problem with the NHL today. The talent pool is watered down, hence the quality of play has suffered.
But hey, FHM is fiction so have at it.

My goal is to bring the 1972-73 Toronto Maple Leafs(as an expansion team) into today's NHL. That will send the league into depth's it has never seen before.

I would disband the team and re-create the 1966-67 AHL Pittsburgh Hornets(most players were NHL veterans). They were the Red Wings top farm team.

That only works if Mr. Ballard is not allowed anywhere near. An expansion Leafs team would be dominant so much quicker.

The 1972-73 Leafs were basically an expansion team because half the team from the previous year got smart and went to the WHA.

Not that I'm a rumor spreader but seems to be a lot of buzz for NHL expansion to Seattle and maybe Portland and maybe something soon will be announced. Only rumors and nothing official.

It's only a matter of time before Seattle gets a team, Portland is a longshot within the next few years.

$$Money$$, and the fan base wasn't there anymore. It makes me laugh when the Houston Oilers moved and then the fans cried foul play. Show up and support your team and maybe they'll stay. Not every team gets a second chance except Winnipeg and the Cleveland Browns; they got all their 'stuff' back.

Bettman's goal was always to get a major tv contract. He figured, and it was suggested by major American networks, that if he had more teams in the south he could turn this game from a regional sport to national. Sure the teams failed, but Gary Bettman got that major deal and he will be in the Hall of Fame for it.

When Quebec left, the Canadian dollar was the lowest it's been in a very long time. All Canadian teams struggled at that time, with the exception of TOR and MTL. Players are paid in American dollars but the revenues are all Canadian dollars. When the Canadian dollar drops as it is now, there is a lot of money lost that some teams cannot afford.

The biggest shot in the gut is that we have more teams in sunny California than we do in Ontario...that is simply crazy.
