Current league with January start date?

After searching (both the forum & google), I was able to find a few threads asking this but I wasn't able to find any that had an answer to the question (either listing how to do it or if it's even possible)

Basically, just wondering how/if I can start a modern/current league but have it start on January 1 (like historical leagues do) instead of April 1?

Save the quick start as a template, start a new custom game, cancel out of the setup wizard. In the template drop down menu, load up the new QuickStart template.

Still starting the league on March 30, 2013 with this strategy

Create a junk league, delete all players and coaches, delete the league, then load the template.
