Issues with OOTP on new computer

I just got a new computer and installed OOTP on it last week. The problem I'm having is a small but annoying one. Whenever I start up the game and 99% of the time when I switch to a player page or the like the screen will go black and I have to ctrl/esc out of it and go back into it to continue. Both my new computer and my old one run Win 7 64 bit as the OS so I'm not sure what is causing this. Has anyone else ever had this problem and does anyone have an idea how to fix it?

Are you running full screen? If so, try a windowed one instead, even if you maximize it with just the task bar showing which is almost full screen anyway. Reason is, there's a bug in OOTP14 which produces a blank screen when the game is set to start up in full screen. Alt/tab gets you out of it and back to the game which is running all the while. Sounds like it may be related to what you are describing.

That fixed it but you can't change the window size which sucks
I ran full screen with my old computer and never had the issue but it was at a lower resolution so that must be what triggered the bug. I guess my options now are play in the window, deal with the bug, or lower the resolution for just OOTP.

Hmmm. You should be able to change the window size; there all different selections which actually have nothing to do with screen resolution. I just prefer mine to fit my laptop display of 1920x1080; I choose that size and OOTP fits snugly with the added advantage of the task bar still showing (for those times when some knucklehead like a boss walks into my office unannounced and I have to click a work program, fast). It's almost like full screen.

The OP needs to update the graphics driver.

These issues are almost never due to OOTP. Hardware compatibility is not an absolute guarantee though close.

How many updates have you run since you got the computer. I had 8 in the first 10 days of mine. Don't assume that windows update provides compatible graphics drivers. You may need to go to your vendors web site and/or the graphics vendor website.

True. I thought it might be related to that known full screen / blank screen bug but, rereading OP's posts, I'm not so sure anymore. Especially the part about not being able to change window sizes.

Wink

I'll have to do that. My new computer is an Alienware 17 and I know Dell uses their own versions of drivers not the ones made by Nvidia.

Fixed now. The window resolution was set to the wrong size. I was trying to maximize it before like a windows window, just clicking the middle box in the top corner. Thanks for all your help.
