Settings madness

Even though I haven't changed a thing and am still listed as my team's GM and manager, every time I try to play a game, my team is listed as AI-controlled in all categories (I have to drop down and reselect my name). . . and minor-league players keep getting added to my Active Roster without any of my input. And yes, I am in Commissioner Mode. This just started happening out of the blue after having played several seasons with no such problems. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

Commissioner mode can be deceiving. Sometimes you can think that you are in charge of a team but you are actually just "Acting as" a GM. Meaning, you can make temporary changes to a team but as soon as you advance, the AI takes over again and does what it wants.

Check this; does your Manager Menu show an option to "Resign from Team"?

My manager menu just lists Available Jobs--no option to Resign . . ., and I don't have the 7-day lineups option selected, just the Use Normal Lineups option. So I'm at a loss as far as fixing this is concerned. And thanks much for your suggestions!

What do you have listed to the right on your manager options page for responsibility for lineups, demotions, minor league transactions, etc... ?

Listed for those options is my name, which makes all this all the more mysterious. I'm listed as the Cubs manager everywhere that I can see, yet when I go to play a game, the opposing manager's name is listed but my team is listed as controlled by AI. Something went haywire somewhere/somehow, but I can't find a way to fix it.

Jim, I'm pretty sure that you are not in control of a team. I just checked in a league in which I am not managing; all I see is Available Jobs like you in my menu and in my options I see my name for Team Controls but I (and you) are not actually managing a team! Go back to Available Jobs and pick the one that you want (stay as commissioner because then you cannot be turned down).

Success! I went to Available Jobs, and even though the only option seemed to be General Manager, I selected that and--voila!--I am now in charge of Chicago Cub Controls as field manager when I want to play the next game. (No, I wasn't fired, not because of my record--dismal--but because I had selected Cannot Be Fired at the outset. Not that selections are a guarantee of anything--as we have learned.) Thanks to all for your suggestions and willingness to help!!!

I thought so. As I said earlier, that commissioner mode can be deceptive. You can do all sorts of things that GMs can do as commissioner, but you are not really in charge of a team, as you found out.
