Oh boy..Just had a top prospect retire at the age of 22 (less than 2 months after being drafted)

I hadn't even noticed until almost a year later. I was wondering why I could no longer find him on my 40-man roster. I was so busy with other GM duties that I hadn't even noticed him missing from my prospect list.

Oh, and for those wondering, I allow recently drafted players to be traded in my dynasty. That's how I acquired him.

Man, I acquired him thinking he was going to be the future ace of my staff.

The part that is Really hard for me to wrap my head around is why he was immediately traded.

That's why I enabled the one year rule

I allow recently drafted players to be traded in my dynasty. That was pretty much the only rule change I've made so far.

Maybe the Giants knew something I didn't, and that's why they were willing to trade him after drafting him?

Not sure if that's even possible in OOTP, but you never know.

Also, San Fransisco was REALLY high on DJ Davis.

What trading difficulty are you using?

Looks like I have it set to average, so right in the middle. Maybe I should up it to a higher difficulty?

I think it was more a matter of the Giants being super high on Davis, and that's why they were willing to part with a recently drafted top prospect. I believe they made me 5-6 different offers for DJ before the draft that year.

At least having this kid softens the blow a little. Doesn't look as promising, but still a good prospect.

Only thing I don't understand (and hopefully I'm not being a total noobie here) is that he's only 21 and already I'm forced to keep him on my 25-man roster as it says he must clear waivers to be sent down. He hasn't even played AA ball yet!

I guess he really didn't want to pitch for the Blue Jays.

He was drafted in '13 and now it is '16. Why did you place him on your 40-man roster from the time he was drafted? That is the issue. Once you placed him on your 40-man roster he used an option each year when you sent him to the minors.

Well, I'm a pretty big noob when it comes to minor league management. I guess I assumed I was "protecting" his services by putting him on the 40-man roster..

When exactly do I need to put players on the 40-man?

When they become eligible for the Rule 5 draft. Putting them on the 40-man protects them from being drafted.

Go to your preferences, and pick the OOTP14 dark skin. It's in the game options, to the left of manager options.

We've seen this happen several times in our online league. It's always to players that are ready for the majors, but still in AAA during the offseason. Which makes total sense from an organizational perspective - why would you start 40 man clock on a player you just drafted?

The first one we shrugged off - but when it happened again a year later - and then again to a player who was just the #1 overall pick, we nulled that setting.

There's a lot of good storyline features to boast about in OOTP 14 - I don't think this is one of them.

It stinks that he lost his passion for the game, but with the best chin since Leno you can be sure he's got a lucrative career in late night TV ahead of him.
