On the Funkturm-Hallen on Berlin, German based Poland hot prospect Dariusz Michalczewski 16-0-0 (14) makes a a step up on competition and faces two times former title challenger David Vedder 15-12-3 (3). Vedder had fought 12 rounds against Virgil Hill and Eric Harding and seems to be a good test for Michalczewski. Michalczewski started the fight with an aggressive style and put Vedder into trouble with a hard uppercut followed by a right cross, Vedder attemped to cover up but Dariusz connected a violent body shot that sent Vedder to the canvas. Vedder got up at seven and managed to end the round. Michalczewski continued working the body on the second round and on the third one Vedder attmeped to trade punches with the Poland but was clearly outpunched. From rounds four to six Vedder attmeped to box from the outside and move but he was caught several times by Michalczewski’s uppercuts when he reach the inside. On the seventh round Michalczewski connected another shot to the ribs and Vedder put one knee on the canvas for an eight count. After Vedder got up Michalczewski continued easily dominating the fight for the remainder seconds of the round. On round eight Vedder looked totally spent and Michalczewski hit him as his own. Finally on the ninth round Michalczewski wobbled Vedder with a cross to the chin and this time he didn’t let the American escape and connected punch after punch until the referee stopped the uneven fight. At the time of the stoppage Michalczewski was leading on all three scorecards by 80-70 twice and 79-71. Dariusz Michalczewski TKO9 David Vedder Last edited by Thomas Hearns; 03-05-2014 at 09:55 AM. |

The mitic Caesars Palace of Las Vegas is full with a sold out crowd that is waiting for the super-fight for the vacant IBF MW crown between Roy Jones Jr. 21-0-0 (20) and Bernard Hopkins 22-1-0 (13). Jones is a warm favourite to win the fight but Hopkins appeared like a very complicated test for Roy. Hopkins came to fight with a 22 fights undefeated streak after losing his first professional fight on 1988. Round 1: Jones let his quick hands go and connected Hopkins with a cross and a pair of hooks to dominate the round. A passive Hopkins only scored with a solid right late on the round. Round 2: An awful round with a lot of feinting and clinching, only a quick right hand to the head by Jones Jr to remark. Round 3: Hopkins shook Jones with a hard combination to the head and as Roy raised his arms Hopkins connected a great hook to the body and dropped Jones Jr for a five count. After Jones got up Hopkins chased him and scored with a few more punches. Round 4: For the first half of the stanza Jones seemed to be winded and Hopkins scored with combinations and a pair of straight rights. Jones Jr recated and connected a hook followed by a straight right but Hopkins answered with his own hook and ended dominating the round. Round 5: Jones Jr connected a hard uppercut that wobbled Hopkins and then continued dominating the first two minutes of the round. On the final minute Hopkins went to the inside and scored well with his uppercuts to make the things close. Round 6: After two even first minutes with few actions to remark, Jones Jr scored with two clean hooks to the body and closed the combination with a smashing cross to the head. Finally he connected a trade-mark lighing combination to win a big round. Round 7: The fight changed again as Hopkins took the fight to Jones and scored several times using his hooks as his best weapon. Jones jr only connected a hard uppercut near the end of the round. Round 8: Jones’ time again as Roy connected a big uppercut that snapped Hopkins head back and then he followed up the action connecting a pair of lighting crosses. Hopkins scored with a well timed uppercut near the end of the round. Round 9: Action packed round that started with Jones dominating the first minute using his speed to outbox Hopkins, but at the middle stages of the round Bernard found the mark with a hook and with an uppercut to even the round. Finally Jones dominated the actions on the last minute working behind his jab to win the round. Round 10: A bit slow round with both fighters showing tiredness but with Jones Jr connecting more punches than a passive Hopkins. Round 11: Hopkins connected a good combination that shook Jones and then he went direct to Jones scoring with a hard uppercut to win the round on a convincing way. Round 12: With the fight very close both fighters needed to win this stanza, the round was very even with both fighters having difficults to find the mark with his punches, a good combination by Jones Jr. gave him a very slim edge on this stanza. The compubox data showed that both fighters landed 224 punches along the fight with Jones having a very slim edge on punching accuracy (31% to 30.8%). Is the knock down scored by Hopkins on the third round enough for him to win the fight? Let’s see the scorecards: Harry Gibbs, United Kingdom scores the bout 114 to 113 William James, United States scores the bout 114 to 113 Adelaide Byrd, United States scores the bout 114 to 113 All for the winner by unanimous decision and new IBF MW champion of the world……Roy Jones Jr! On the Ballys Hotel on Atlantic City IBF super-middleweight champion James Toney 36-0-2 (25) will make his first title defense against former WBA super-middleweight champion Victor Cordoba 19-4-3 (15) that won his title against Chistophe Tiozzo on 1991 and lost it on his second defense by a close split decsion to Michael Nunn on 1992. The first round didn’t have a lot of action. Toney controlled the center of the ring and threw his jab and sometimes went to the inside to connect with his uppercuts. Cordoba only connected a good short hook near the end of the round. On the first two minutes of the second round both fighters attemped to work to the body and the round was very even until Toney connected with a hard one-two combination that seemed to hurt Cordoba, Toney continued attacking and connected a big uppercut that cut Cordoba inside his left eyebrow, on only seconds Cordoba’s face was a river of blood and the referee decided to stop the fight after the medical advice. James Toney TKO2 Victor Cordoba Retained IBF middleweight crown. After the fight Toney was asked about a possible fight against WBC champion Nigel Benn or WBO one Chris Eubank and his answer was “I am waiting here to give those british clowns a beating and if they not come here I will cross the Atlantic to punish them in front of their people!” Last edited by Thomas Hearns; 03-05-2014 at 09:57 AM. |

After his razor cut unanimous decision loss against Roy Jones Jr for the iBF middleweight crown, Bernard Hopkins claimed for a rematch against Jones. "The fight was very close, I dropped him on the third round and I think that I made the necessary to deserve the decision" Hopkins said, and he added "The fight was a good one and I think that all boxing fans wants to see a rematch" On the other hand Jones camp doesn't show any intrest on a rematch with Hopkins and a fight against Thomas Tate seems to be very posible for Roy's first title defense. If Roy wins this fight he will like to face recently crowned WBA middleweight champion Gerald McClellan on a unification fight. Last edited by Thomas Hearns; 03-05-2014 at 09:58 AM. |

At the Briggs Stadium on Detroit, Bernard Hopkins 22-2-0 (13) attemps to redirect his career after the razor cut decision loss against Roy Jones Jr for the IBF middleweight title, his rival is an unheralded middleweight called Willie Lee Monroe 19-1-2 (14). After two close first rounds Monroe controlled the third stanza with the highligh of a big uppercut to Hopkins chin late on the round. On the fourth round Hopkins pressed the action and outworked Monroe using his hooks as his best weapon. The following two rounds continued the same way with Hopkins attacking and Monroe attemping to counter with little succes. On the seventh round Hopkins seemed to be decided to end the fight but the referee deducted him a point for holding and hitting. After that Hopkins connected a right hook that made Monroe retreat on unsteady legs, Hopkins chased him and connected another big hook to the head that let Monroe out on his feet forcing the referee to stop the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 58-56 (x2) for Hopkins and 57-57. The compubox data showed that Hopkins connected 186 pinches at 38.1% and Monroe connected 105 punches ant 38.9%. At the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas Roy Jones Jr. 22-0-0 (20) makes his first title defense against former title challenger Thomas Tate 27-2-0 (20) that in his only title chance lost by UD12 against Julian Jackson for the WBC belt on 1992. The first round of the fight was slow and even until Jones connected a lighting right late on the stanza and dropped Tate for a short count. The following three rounds had great back and forth action but with Jones connecting more than Tate to clearly win the rounds. Jones surprised Tate several times with his quick rights to the head. Tate connected a good hook to Jones jaw on the third round but he was clearly superated by the champion. On the the fifth round Jones accelerated the pace and with another quick right he made Tate stumbling backwards, then Jones went to the inside and connected a pair of uppercuts dropping Tate for the second time on the fight. Tate got up and the bell saved him. On the sixth round Jones continued punishing Tate with straight rights and smashing combinations, on the following round Tate did it better but Jones Jr. continued in control of the actions and also cut Tate on the outside of his right eyebrow. On rounds eight and nine Jones Jr used Tate as a punching bug, his speed and ring movement were too much for the challenger that only connected a good hook on this period. On the tenth round the pace slowed a bit but Jones still won the round, on the following stanza Jones Jr dropped Tate again combining first to the body and then to the head. Tate got up on bad shape and Jones jr punished him for the rest of the round. On the last round Jones Jr continued punishing Tate and with a snapping head uppercut he reopened the cut and the referee decided to stop the fight. At the time of the stoppage Jones jr was leading on all three scorecards by 110-95(x2) and 109-97. Jones Jr. connected 414 punches at an spectacular 64.4% and Tate connected 132 at a very low 18.4%. On the Milwaukee Auditorium former title middleweight challenger Bernard Hopkins 23-2-0 (14) faces 42 years old Panamanian boxing legend and four division champion Roberto Duran 89-9-0 (63). Rumors said that Duran trained very hard for this fight seeing it as an step for a last title fight. On the second round Jones Jr. dominated the distance and with the highlight of a big cross to the head he clearly won the round.< On the following stanza Jones continued his work and with a good left-right combination he staggered Phillips again. On the fourth round we had back and forth action again with Jones Jr. connecting three consecutive hooks to the head with the last one he made Phillips stumbled backwards but when Jones Jr came for the kill Phillips stopped him cold with a hard hook. Finally on the fifth round Jones jr. scored with a pair of hard combinations and then he connected a hard hook to Phillips jaw, that made the challenger retreat but Jones continued landing punches until left Phillips out on his feet with another left-right combination forcing the referee to stop the fight. At the time of the stoppage Jones Jr. was leading on all three scorecards by 39-37.
