Depends on cashflow. If you want to get in now, buy 14 now, then whenever you feel like you want the upgrade, buy it then. There's usually a sale around the All-Star game where 15 will be discount (between 25% and 50%). Also, since it's on Steam now, they will often have their own sales at various points of the year, so you might be able to pick it up cheaper through that, although I believe then you'd be limited to playing it through Steam.

Go with 14. When 15 comes out get that. If you can't afford it PM me and I will gift it to you through Steam.

This is a one-time offer to the OP only. Please no long lines of beggars.

I know of several people who will not download the new version of the game until July-ish because of that. Nothing against the game; I think it's just part of having to develop an indie title like this every single year with the same basic deadline. That being said, I would recommend buying XIV for two reasons:

1. It's out right now and you don't have to wait for it.
2. It's stable and works well.
3. Maybe you'll decide to drop another $40 in July on the new version anyway.

I think that from a pure future-sales standpoint, the community is probably behind you buying XIV as well, as it really does represent the best the game has to offer at the moment, and that will probably continue to be the case through at least May. Years in which big new stuff is added usually mean this is even more the case, as Markus sometimes can't help but make the first couple months a sort-of public beta to find and work out the kinks. I think this is going to be one of those years, what with the 3D graphics engine and all.
Big name sports games ship with major flaws every year haha. Remember when Madden decided they'd guarantee two yards on a QB sneak (forget what version) made the goal line decisions pretty easy. was near impossible to blow it. At least with OOTP i can always count on commitment to fix what is broken.

My experience is this was true at one time. I have to say though, since about 11 the game on initial release has not had any bugs that were serious enough to make me want to wait for patches. I've started new leagues right away with new version releases and never had to restart them because of bugs.

Markus has gotten very good at releases with few serious bugs, and there's almost always a patch within 2 weeks of initial release.

Just my experience though.

Thanks man! That's a great offer right there. Guess I'll buy OOTP 14 right now and play it until the release of OOTP 15 to make sure I like the game. (which I'm sure I will, since I loved BMogul, and OOTP looks 1000x far superior)

Thank everybody else for your input as well!!

This is also my experience. I don't start a new game but import my ongoing game into each new version and have done so on release day without issue.

This is very true...but rather than having issues linger into the summer, they are now usually resolved by May.

I was gonna recommend ootp 1. That way you get the full story and then go on to ootp 2, 3 etc.

When do most online leagues switch to the new version? I have version 11 right now, but I want to upgrade so that I can play in online leagues. If most leagues switch in June/July, I might buy version 14 right now, but if they mostly switch in April, I think I'll wait til then and just buy version 15.

I second this

Just make sure you skip OOTP 7 when Markus went completely off the rails and killed the main character

Buy buy buy

Buy 14 now. Buy 15 when it comes out. We are North Americans. Buy what's available now and upgrade to the latest and best when its available. Got to keep up with the Jone's.

I'd say your best bet would be to download OOTP 8. It's a free, full version. It's very different from the current OOTP, but one thing it has in common is the fact that it is extremely in depth, with lots of minor leagues, financials, etc. Try OOTP 8 for the 2 months until OOTP 15 comes out. If you like it, and feel like it's for you, get OOTP 15. It is well worth the price.
