Do you think his OVR should have dropped this much?
He isn't a great pitcher but he didn't do terribly either. At least, I don't think. Although, I don't see how he was 4.5 Stars to begin with .
Now it says (as a starting pitcher below). Is it because I used him as a reliever? I wouldn't think that would drop him 4 whole stars. ![]()

2 pitch only. was probably rated as reliever before, for some reason now rated as SP. change him to RP he will be back up to 4.5
adding: i'm actually surprise your scout think he ever would be 5 star SP with only one ++ pitch, and a borderline second + pitch Last edited by le receveur; 02-07-2014 at 11:12 PM. |

By default, the game bases players' overall rating based on their listed position (you can change this with an option in League Setup). It's not really all that evident with batters, but it's extremely noticeable with some pitchers, like Mr. Martin here. If the game determines that a guy shouldn't be a starter (indicated by his Suggested Role), and you set his position to SP, it's generally going to rate him poorly overall, even if he'd be 5 stars as a reliever.
Check out this guy on my team. He's rated half a star overall as a starter, 5 stars overall as a reliever. But note his stats from the last three years; I've turned him into one heck of a starter, but the game refuses to rate him higher than 1 star because it sees him as a reliever. Doesn't bother me; it means lower arbitration numbers.

I agree with le receveur and just want to add that even as a reliever his second pitch makes him a liability and his star ratings may reflect that soon.

the one thing I would add (but yes I over manage minors) is that since you drafted him as a starter, I would have tried him as a starter in the minors first, and then when he failed move he to the bullpen this is how you discover guys like Fyrestorm that scouting doesn't like, but are decent starters. (note however with that 2nd pitch only he would likely have failed, but I play ratings off so I would not have known)
