My team gets bad halfway through season?

I don't really know much about baseball, but I've been trying to learn some to play this game. What I don't understand is how my team does really well for the fast half of the season, but around june to july, my team just starts losing all of their games. I've used commissioner mode to edit my players stats, and I've let the AI think of the best way to use my players, but it's always the same. They start off strong but then they start losing games constantly. Any ideas as to why this is?

That is just the nature of baseball. Anything can happen. You might get hot at any moment also.

how many years has this happened? do you let AI control promotion and demotion from your minor system?

So it's not really based on skill as to who makes to playoffs?

In my current league this is year 2, but in other leagues I started before this one the same has happened. I've been experimenting with different league settings which is why I haven't sat down and played a league extensively yet, but it remains the same that every time I have used a team, the same pattern happens.

And yes, I let the AI control my minor league. I usually don't draft up from my minors because I think the players are bad? I'm just not very experienced as to how that works.

Baseball is based on skill far more than any other sport. But it's also based on luck far more than any other sport. As an individual game, anything can happen at any point in the season. Your superstar pitcher could have a bad night and give up 8 runs in the first inning. Or your backup catcher could come out of nowhere and win the game with two home runs. That's luck. But the baseball season is the longest season in sports. No other sport plays 162 games, nor does a team in any other sport play nearly every single day of the season. The schedule is so long that your final standings will invariably reflect the skill of the team. Teams might overperform one day and underperform the next, and sometimes a hot or cold streak will carry on for a week, but very few teams are going to be lucky enough to win their division with poor talent, or unlucky enough to have a sub-.500 season with an all-star roster. It happens, certainly - that's the nature of sports - but very, very rarely. The baseball season is long enough to level everything out.

also big difference from baseball is the development time it takes in minors before being ready for the big league. guys in the minors are there to learn not because they are not good. this can take from 2 years to 5 years for a good player depending how old they were when you drafted them... to me this is the beauty of baseball...

**it Happens. Seems like for me no matter which team i have i almost aam always bad in April early May and August but play great in June, July & September.
Do you have the AI change the lineup around every so often? Maybe override the AI's decision on a few guys. Look at what players are doing vs RHP & LHP and go to Strategy - P[layer Strategy and force a guy to play a position
Go with high OBP guys at the top power avg guys 3-6 the rest 7-9. Do you play with or without DH?

There is a lot that goes into a baseball season.
1) How was the quality of opponents in the 1st half of the season?
2) How is the quality now that you are in a bad run?
3) Injuries?
4) Was your team actually "over performing" in the beginning?
5) Why are you losing? Starters? Bullpen? Offense? Defense?

The devil is in the details. The information you have provided is too vague for a useful response. There are too many possible scenarios for your team to be behaving this way.

If you are new to baseball in general let us know and people will post questions to ask yourself so you can start to identify why your team was winning and is no longer.

Good luck,
Tom

I agree with this. I'd say the one element that still seems to hit me pretty regularly late and just pre-playoffs is that pitcher or two that goes down. I almost mark it on the calendar to prepare to bring someone up.

I started a season 9-21 but finished with 98-100 wins and took the division. I once lost 12 consecutive games in September to miss the playoffs completely. I've won 23 consecutive. Streaks happen. Your skill is knowing who needs replaced who needs to be kept and what trades/callups/roster adjustments can be made.
