ROY Award(qualifying)

Does anyone know if in OOTP a player has to qualify as a League Leader to earn the ROY award?

I'm not sure what exactly goes into the calculations but I'm pretty sure I've seen ROYs who weren't league leaders.

I have 1 that I have noticed. a 2B who hit .266 10 HR 42 RBI, none of those #'s would be top 20.

to qualify as a League Leader in Offense you must have 501 Plate appearances, My question is do you have to meet this criteria to win the Rookie of the year award in OOTP?

The reason I ask is I have a league where a guy on my team out played the RoY Winner and didn't win the award..My Guy was 37 PA short of qualifying as a League leader and the guy who won had almost 600 PA.

Ive seen guys win it with only 300 or so at bats when there was a weak rookie class, is your player by chance a pitcher? I've noticed the ai rarely picks a pitcher for rookie of the year unless they were cy young worthy
