Weight classes

Sort of a basic question. If I have a boxer who is rated in more than one weight class, does the game automatically match opponents to use the same weight class ratings, or do I have to set the boxers' weight classes manually somewhere?

You can select the default rating that you wish to use for the fighter at any given time. So you can simulate what has happened in reality with fighters such as Pacman, who has fought in multiple weight classes.

Do I have to change the default back and forth as my boxer faces opponents in different weight classes, or will the game automatically switch away from the default? I don't want to give an unfair advantage when my default HW boxer goes up against LHW opponents.

There is something called "weight class adjust" in the fight options ... it is horrible ... if checked it will drastically adjust the ratings of a lower weight fighter ... make sure it is always unchecked ....

If your HW is facing a LHW fighter and the LHW fighter has a HW rating make sure HW is the default rating for the LHW ....

example

Fighter A = HW rated 8
Fighter B = LHW 8, HW 5

If you don't make the HW the default for the LHW fighter than it will be an 8 vs. an 8 .... if you have the weight class adjust checked it would be like an 8 vs. a 2 ...

hope that makes sense

I thought that was the whole purpose of the "weight class adjust" feature? I hope Paul is aware it doesn't work the way it should. I only use heavyweights so any light heavyweights that fought in the heavyweight class (Tami Mauriello, Jack Delaney, Ezzard Charles, etc) are rated as they were against heavies. Very few light heavyweights campaigned against heavyweights at under 12 stone 8 (180) back in the day. Just as cruiserweights pack on the pounds when they move up to challenge the behemoths nowadays.

It would be nice if, in the example above, Fighter B automatically fought as a HW against Fighter A even when his default is LHW. It seems I'm going to have to go into the ratings and change the default before every bout. In which case, it should be in the fight options, should it not?

I'm still a bit confused by this. Is there a way to check what rating was used for any particular fight? I took a look at my fighter's last bout. My fighter is rated for both LHW and HW, with LHW the default. In his last fight fight he was up against a boxer who is only rated HW. In the Personal History, it says that the division was HW. Was my boxer's LHW rating used? Is that why he got beat up so badly?

He would of retained his LHW rating and been penalized for this if the Adjust for Weight Class differences was ticked.

I don't believe "Adjust for Weight Class" was ticked, so I guess he fought the HW using his default LHW rating, straight up. There's very little difference between the LHW and HW rating, so I guess it doesn't really matter which is used?

Bute is an example. I won't rate him at LHW because his SMW rating will perform accurately at the elevated weight class when "adjust for weight" is checked during a simulation. Other fighters, who change weight classes and compete in that weight class for an extended period of time will normally be rated in multiple weight classes. It is a judgement call.

What did you get when you ran Bute vs Pascal?

75(37)-24(6)-1 for Pascal. That said, I'm going to rework the Pascal rating. His power number is likely too low.
