Haha thanks.

As long as the question is appropriate and in the right place, sure. But newbie questions should be in the newbie forum, mod and graphics questions in the Mods forum, etc., etc., and inappropriate questions warrant inappropriate answers.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Also every version of "Are we there yet? Huh? Huh? Are we there yet?" deserves an online beatdown.

Remember last year's incessant release date questions? OMG.

Are the release date questions worse than the patch date questions? I normally don't buy new versions until after a few patches are released, so I never pay attention until after the new version comes out.

For those of us who play OOTP every day and post here regularly, it's a no-brainer that we'd spend $40 for this game. But for the people asking these types of questions, some of them have only played the demo, others are playing much older versions, and some have only poked around the OOTP website. So they actually don't know if the game is worth $40. And what better place to go than the forums for the game to try to make an informed decision about whether or not to spend $40? I do this all the time with PS3 games, as well as pretty much anything I buy on Amazon (books, clothes, whatever).

I agree with everything you said about this game being a steal at $40, but someone who doesn't play the game day in and day out has no way of knowing that without asking people who play the game.

So while your post wasn't meant as an attack, it did come across as dismissive with a "why would you even ask this?" tone. Maybe just try putting yourself in the OP's shoes before you go ahead and post your initial reaction.

I certainly agree with you -- point taken. That said, I think I've been pretty fair-minded in trying to clarify my point, admitting it was misdirected, and apologizing to the extent that any apology was called for.

I think there were four active threads demanding to know when the release date would be on the front page at one time. Reposting Markus' latest statement on the matter never mollified them, either.

Markus does a really good job of telling us what he knows - better than almost any other game designer does. But that's never enough for the impatient. Nothing is.

Wow this game must have a lot of people playing. I didn't expect so many replies.

Thank you all. I picked up the game and love it.

When you consider what many boutique developers charge for games that have a dedicated but relatively small consumer niche -- take most strategy titles on the Matrix site, for example -- $40 is a low price. A very low price. $20 is essentially giving it away, for all the work that has gone into its development. These guys don't have the resources of Sega or EA, which routinely charge $60+ for their "AAA" titles, which often are games you play for a few hours and then forget. From a perspective of price-to-hours of enjoyment ratio, $40 is pretty absurd -- absurdly low.

I'm not saying I want OOTP Dev. to charge more, although I would certainly pay more for this game. It's just, when I see these threads about "is OOTP worth the $20?" it's just pretty jaw-dropping.

Yes. The game is worth $20. There are 7 days in a week, the earth is round, and the pope Catholic. It may be a lot for some to pay, but look at it from the other side too. If I were Markus and co., I'd frankly get pretty pissed seeing threads like these.

I hope Steam will bring in many new customers, even if it means selling the game at a discount for OOTP Dev. But it's unquestionably one of the not very fair (from a dev. perspective) side-effects of Steam and digital distributors that routinely have sales that we've started to reflexively think, "Is it worth the 50% off price?"
I agree

Seriously though, we have not changed the price in 14 years. It was always $39.99 and then $19.99 during the offseason. During the same time, prices for most other goods have doubled (at least over here in Europe... together with the bad exchange rates Dollar / Euro), so what we do is essentially earning less each year because of inflation. We have thought about increasing the price for several years, but so far have not done it because we didn't want to upset our loyal customers. We will have to do it eventually, but it won't happen in 2014, that's what I can promise. However, since we have a rather great feature in store for OOTP 16, it is pretty likely that we'll have to increase the price for that in 2015.

3-D Graphics that rival the best PS4, Xbox one game ever? Complete overhaul? Still waiting for new features list for 15, now you have us glued to our email waiting to see what that will be for 16.

I propose that rather than insist that "newbies" post only in the appropriate places and that those who ask about release dates be subject to a "beatdown," that we establish a special forum for folks like this Wolf guy that only includes people who agree to post only about matters he approves of. It would be an opt-in forum that, once you opt into it, you can never opt-out. That way, this Wolf guy would never have his standards for proper behavior violated by the silly people.

If you read the recent thread about that subject, the consensus guidelines for handling people posting in the wrong forum and asking mods to move those theads were developed by someone else without any input from me. I'm just the convenient bogeyman.

The various forums exist for real reasons and there are valid reasons why people should be starting appropriate threads in them rather than in General Discussions. As in the right people will read them and reply to them and other users can find them easier and thus better benefit from all that. You really think that graphics and mod discussions should take place in the main forum? Please.

But if you want to keep on being ignorant, mistaken, and out of line, don't let me stop you. I find people like you amusing.
