OOTP on Amazon

My family just got a new computer (FINALLY) and I am looking to put OOTP 14 on it. I could buy it on the Mac App Store, but I only have about $4 credit, which is unfortunately not enough.

I DO have an Amazon gift card which I haven't bothered to use yet. I noticed OOTP for Mac is on Amazon, but at the full $40 price. Is there any way it can get down to the current sale price of $20?

So, if I understand correctly, you are asking for a way to get around the problem of either having to buy OOTP for $16 through the App Store ($20 sale price - $4 credit), or $20 from Amazon, assuming that your gift card is $20.

If you don't think this game is worth $16-$20, I don't think this thread will be very productive. This is the civil version of the most likely response to you.

To the very best of my knowledge, the sale of OOTP 14 ended on January 2nd. I'll check with Brad Cook to get a confirmation on that. However, if that turns out to be true, you will have to come up with the extra $20.

OK. The Mac App Store and OOTP's homepage still says it is on sale for $20.

I can pay the $40, and I will probably end up doing so. No question the game is worth that much. However, if it can be bought for $20, I'm going to try and buy it for $20.

Thanks for both of your responses.

You can close this thread if you want to now.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Wow, really? Calm down, dude. He's just asking if the sale price extends to Amazon.

IIRC, In the past some bought OOTP11 through Amazon and I believe that version came with a disk and the only way they could play the games was if the disk was in the drive. I'm not sure if your OOTP14 Amazon version would require the same thing. It may be worth checking into before you "pull the pin" and buy it.

OOTP 14 should be $19.99 on Amazon, AFAIK. Let me check into that with the guys. Hold off on making a purchase, if you don't mind.

Hi Brad,

Also, if you don't mind, can you please find out what the price is purchasing through the OOTP web store? I thought I read somewhere here in the forums that the holiday season sale was supposed to end on January 2nd?

Thanks!

The holiday season sale was only on Steam, to celebrate getting the game on there. It was $14.99 on Steam through Jan. 2. The price on the web store has been and will continue to be $19.99. I have asked Markus and Andreas to clarify, but I thought that all outlets, including Amazon, should be selling OOTP 14 for $19.99 now.

Nice to hear from you. I just figured that since the web store (or whatever the in-game purchase center is called), the Mac App Store, and apparently now Steam have the game at $19.99, I figured Amazon would too.

It looks like the Amazon purchase is just a download.

Some questions:
Is there any real difference between buying from Amazon and the Mac App Store? I thought I read that the Mac App Store didn't have real team names.

Will I still be able to get patches if I purchase through Amazon?

I have the 14 demo installed to get acquainted with the differences between the 8 versions I'm behind. I should un-install that before I buy the game from Amazon, right?

Markus said the game should be $19.99 on Amazon, so I just emailed them and let them know. I'm not sure how long it will take for them to put the price change into effect.

Yes, the Amazon purchase is a digital download, but we only sell the game that way these days. We haven't sold OOTP on disc for a while now.

Yes, the Mac App Store version doesn't have real team names because MLB contacted Apple about that. (And that's why iOOTP just has city names, although you can easily add the team names.) However, you can change the team names very easily, and the Mac App Store version still has all the real players and everything else.

Yes, you can still get patches if you purchase through Amazon. If you have the demo installed, you actually shouldn't have to uninstall it - Amazon should send you a serial # that you can use to unlock the demo. You can then use that and simply not download the game from them.

However, if you buy the Mac App Store version, all patches have to go through Apple first, so there's always a delay between when everyone else gets a patch and when the Mac App Store version gets patched. And you must download the patch through the Mac App Store - you can't use our download, since the MAS version of OOTP is different from the one we sell.

LMK if you need anything else.

Many thanks to Brad for providing us with that useful information.

I just wanted to add that even though the Mac App Store version doesn't have the real team names, anyone who would like to add that to the game can either PM me or my good friend Bigrod and we'll gladly tell you how to do that.
