Creating a completely fictional world

I'm looking for tips on creating a fictional world. I tried this for the previous version, but the game kept crashing. I'm sure I messed something up. How do you guys go about it?

I've created several fictional setups spanning several versions of the game. Never had it crash after trying to get it set up. I've set up leagues of 15 teams and other leagues of 60 teams (not recommended, had many unintended consequences). There really even shouldn't be a set of options that allow you to continue the setup process incorrectly. It shouldn't let you even get to the point of trying to start.

I would suggest uninstalling the game and reinstalling to make sure there are no corrupted setup files

Start small.

Grow according to a plan (I used a spreadsheet to map expansion). I started on Puerto Rico and slowly expanded to Florida. Once I had 2 small divisions I then added a 3rd division in the Dominican and Cuba.

I kept it that way for a decade or so then merged with a Mexican league giving me 4 divisions. At that point I need realignment. I added minor league levels one at a time slowly over the years. I chronicled all of it in the league evolution tab.

Do you still have 11? Otherwise you can edit the world default XML. I find the txtx from 11 to be easier. You can also do this in game. I have added 15 nations/planets to my Endor Leagues on 14. Since I do not have leagues on those planets it makes it easier but I use Europe for weather for Coruscant.
To do it in game just go to Explore Game World under GM Menu. Add a new nation add your cities and population. Use weather from a real place for stadiums.

Ah...you said fictional world not fictional universe. My mistake...I thought you meant fictional not fictional.

Thanks for the feedback. I do know how to create within the game but wasn't sure if there is a better way of doing it. I don't want to take the time to delete all of the real nations.

I use real nations with mine. See if this helps.

I've set up a full fictional universe before, and I'm working on another one. (As many do, I often find I spend more time setting up my games than playing them.) It's easy to get out of hand if you don't keep it small. You want to edit in the world_default.xml rather than in-game so you can get things the way you want them. I'd suggest deleting all the nations you no longer want except a few, and then editing the last remaining nations into the nations you do want. The advantage of this is it's harder to screw up the format- I tend to make a lot of mistakes when I try to create the nations from scratch. Depending on how obsessive you are, you'll also want to edit the "school.txt" file- nothing more jarring than knowing a player from a fictional universe graduated from Texas A&M. You may also want to edit the names files depending on how exotic your universe is. Also, you may want to search for the "WorldGen" app on these forums- they can help to create fictional cities. Hope that helps.

You don't have to delete all the nations, firstly make sure you back up the world default file. Then what I did was just replace some countries that fitted my fictional countries and replace the names, Belarus became Kelda, Slovenia became Skelphland and so on. I kept the long and lat of the original cities and their populations just changing the names and languages of all the ways I've tried this was by far the quickest and easiest that I did. Then when you start your league up just have players come from your fictional countries, although check your rosters and specially free agents as a couple of times I had one player from Cuba and one from the USA sneak in as free agents.

Anyway I have a four country fictional world with around 600 cities in it and took just an hour to input it and check it before it was good to go, since then I've done multiple dummy runs and never had a crash (touch wood).
