Cornelius Boza-Edwards 42-3-1 (29) vs Aaron Pryor 58-3-1 (50)

The Hawk stormed out of his corner and landed clean right hands that opened a cut over Boza's left eye, they traded violently for much of the round and a sweeping hook dropped Pryor for a three count just before the bell. Pryor overwhelmed Edwards in the second and third rounds with a constant stream of combinations that left Edward's left eye badly swollen. Boza was getting the worst of round four as well, that is until a powerful uppercut dropped Aaron for a five count and Cornelius ended the round with two hard combos.

Edwards had his first dominant round in the fifth, backing Aaron up and landing hard left hands, late in the round he dug a vicious hook to the body that forced Pryor down to a knee for the third knockdown. Edwards got the best of some violent trades in rounds six and seven and Pryor was looking in a bad way.

'The Hawk' summoned the strength for a big eighth round where he rocked Cornelius with two huge right hands and ended the round pounding him along the ropes. Early in the ninth, Edwards connected with a brutal combo that buckled Aaron's legs and had him more hurt than at any other time, with time to finish Edwards unloaded with both hands but Pryor refused to break during the punishing round(29-2).

Miraculously, Pryor stormed out for round ten firing combinations that pushed Boza back to the ropes, he countered well but it was a hawk round. Early in round eleven Edwrads was rocked with a right hand and Pryor jumped on him and landed fifteen unanswered blows until a right hand put Boza down for a seven count; exhausted and on unsteady legs Cornelius was a sitting duck and Aaron unleashed a barrage of shots that forced the ref's hand and gave him a thrilling victory in one of the best fights you'll ever see.


Ray Mancini 37-5 (26) vs Louis Kaplan 32-12-1 (5)

Ray's physicality was just too much for the smaller and lighter punching Kaplan, Lou countered and defended well but he was dropped in the seventh with an uppercut and out-worked to the UD by 'Boom Boom". 116-111 x2 & 115-112


Jose Napoles 41-1 (34) vs Joe Brown 21-1 (12)

In a high quality bout, these two produced one close round after another with Napoles pushing forward and scoring with lead rights while Old Bones used his jab. A double jab opened a nasty cut over Jose's right eye in round three and Napoles brought swelling to Brown's left eye with a series of right hands in round six.

After two impossible to call rounds, Brown scored a flash knockdown at the end of round nine with a counter hook. Joe took the next two rounds with hard combinations before Jose dominated the final stanza with a whirlwind attack. The knockdown proved to be the difference and Brown emerged with the narrowest of MD's. 113-114 x2 & 114-114


Lew Tendler 20-1-1 (11) vs Kenny Lane 18-2-2 (2)

In a tactical battle of southpaws, Lane was able to completely frustrate the heavily favored tendler and ride his right jab to the upset UD. 11-119, 112-118 & 113-117

Sam Langford 99-3 (78) vs Spoon 35-6-1 (28)

Spoon engaged Sam in an inside battle that featured plenty of grappling and vicious body punching. Langford had the strength advantage, but Spoon's chin held up. Sam dominated the last two rounds with powerful right hands to the body and head and that enabled him to crack the 100 win barrier with a tough UD. 117-113, 116-114 & 115-114


Shane Mosley 55-6-1 (40) vs Welsey Mouzon 20-1-1 (5)

There was a tremendous amount of speed on display here and Mouzon built an early lead with snazzy combinations while Mosley banged away to the body. The body work Shane invested paid off and he pounded Mouzon over the last four rounds, dropping him in round eleven with a right hand and breaking open the tight fight to earn the UD. 116-111 x2 & 115-112


Gabriel Elorde 42-4 (22) vs Ike Williams 38-3-1 (25)

This was fought at a much slower pace than I anticipated, but Ike put on a fantastic performance; holding off Elorde with jabs, that swelled up his right eye, and occasional right hands that staggered the Filipino on the way to a comprehensive UD. 112-118, 113-118 & 113-116


Duilio Loi 38-3-1 (8) vs Hector Camacho, Sr. 79-23-4 (29)

Hector's speed provided early trouble as he ripped off 2 and 3 punch combinations to build a lead through four. Then the technical prowess of Loi showed up as he started to score repeatedly with lead right hands that drew swelling from Camacho's left eye. Duilio had the better of the action, but the fight seemed closer than two of the judges scored it. Nevertheless, the Italian advanced with a UD. 117-111, 117-112, 115-113

(WBC) Henry Armstrong 66-1 (55) vs Duilio Loi 39-3-1 (8)

Loi's jab and movement frustrated Hank early and puffed up his right eye, Armstrong began to forge inside in round four and his body work and hooks had Dulio backing up. Hard uppercuts created rapid swelling on the challengers left eye in round seven and an overhand right busted that eye wide open in the eighth. Unfortunately, the competitive contest was halted due to the wounds on Loi's eye early in round nine.


Manny Pacquiao 162-16-3 (145) vs Ike Williams 39-3-1 (25)

They fought evenly in the first three rounds and then Ike out-fought Manny in an action packed fourth and fifth, including dropping the Pacman late in round five with a nasty uppercut. Manny stormed back in round six with hard left hands that Ike took well, but the speed of Pacquiao carried the frame. Manny hurt Williams early in round seven with a left and continued to land that shot until a barrage of shots led to a controversial stoppage by the ref. Manny had scored 27 pts, but Ike had 34 in round 5. Damn shame.


(IBF) Jack Blackburn 36-5-2 (12) vs Shane Mosley 56-6-1 (40)

Blackburn used all of his wiles in the first three rounds to counter and defend against Mosley's rapid pressure in the fast paced bout. Shane staggered Jack with a right hand in the fourth and pushed him to the ropes where they engaged in a toe to toe battle. The fifth followed the same pattern but Mosley hurt Jack early in the sixth with a hook to the body and he unleashed fast and powerful blows until a right hand crashed into Blackburn's chin and put him flat on his back for the count of ten.


Beau Jack 21-2 (10) vs Sam Langford 100-3 (78)

Jack's relentless work rate built him an early lead but Sam hurt him in the fourth with an uppercut and early in round five with a hook, Langford pressed his advantage with several telling blows before Jack exploded off the ropes with a punishing assault that led to him gaining the edge in a torrid final half minute of an exhilarating round (23-17). Beau continued to punch non-stop and he wore Sam down late and took the well earned upset UD. 117-111, 117-112 & 116-112

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. 105-3-2 (57) vs Kenny Lane 19-2-2 (2)

Lane's innate ability to make opponents look bad didn't work against 'Money". Mayweather used his own prodigious defense to negate Lane's jab and he consistently drilled him with lead right hands. Well ahead, Floyd dropped Kenny with an uppercut early in round eleven and he punished him with power shots until a combo put Lane down and out later in the round.


Tony Canzoneri 62-4-1 (24) vs Joe Brown 22-1 (12)

As expected, these two delivered a high quality Boxing match. Canzoneri used his right hand to bust open and swell up Brown's left eye. Joe stayed in it with strong combinations but Tony had the bigger moments and earned a tight UD. 116-113 x2 & 115-114


Roberto Duran 92-7-5 (69) vs Ray Mancini 38-5 (26)

Duran made mincemeat out of Mancini, punishing him with merciless body punches and brutal right hands to the head, in the third and sharp right dropped Ray for a five count and Duran battered him until the ref stepped in and stopped the one sided slaughter.


(WBO) Jose Luis Ramirez 22-1 (16) vs Aaron Pryor 59-3-1 (51)

Coming off his brutal war with Boza-Edwards, Pryor was nonetheless razor sharp in the first two rounds as he drilled JLR with punishing right hands and uppercuts during two dominant stanzas. Seconds into the third Aaron walked into a nasty uppercut that dropped him flat on his face, 'The Hawk' was up at nine but after a flurry from the Mexican a straight left dropped him again for an eight count; this wasn't balance, Pryor was in a bad way and Jose unleashed with both hands until the ref stepped in and gave Ramirez his second consecutive major upset.

Jimmy Paul 18-5 (10) vs Carlos Ortiz 42-0-1 (22)

Ortiz scored with hard uppercuts and right hands during a dominant first two rounds that left Jimmy with a swollen left eye. Carlos was well in control of the third until the closing seconds when 'The Ringmaster' landed a thudding right hand that dropped Carlos for a four count. Undeterred, Ortiz rocked paul with a hook to open the fourth and pounded the Kronk fighter until an uppercut left him helpless in the corner and the referee called a halt.


Joe Gans 40-3 (26) vs Willie Fitzgerald 21-0-2 (6)

This was pretty much a jabbing contest, and Gans was in command for much of the bout. Fitzgerald didn't waver, but he was just outgunned and Joe won a concise UD. 118-110, 117-111 & 115-114


Baby Arizmendi 42-4 (8) vs Sandy Saddler 69-5-1 (56)

Arizmendi, inspired by a huge hometown crowd, used his right jab to puff up Sandy's left eye and dominate the first two rounds. The third was timid for the first minute and then Saddler landed a crushing hook that flattened the Mexican for a spectacular one punch KO.


Edwin Valero 39-5 (29) vs (WBA) Pernell Whitaker 82-1 (37)

Valero's unbridled aggression caused Pea trouble in the early going and forced Whitaker into a more defensive pose than he is accustomed too. But Edwin was unable to land his most powerful blows and Pernell broke down his body before dropping him late in round ten and twice in round eleven, the second time for the count with a vicious hook to the body. Valero was up by 2 on 2 cards and down 1 on the other.
