Lightweight Second Round (Rematches)
Roberto Duran 89-7-5 (67) vs Yuri Romanov 13-8-1 (4)
Duran put a nasty beating on Romanov, winning every round and closing his left eye before dropping Yuri in round nine with a hook and forcing the TKO with a follow up barrage. Rufe Turner 17-3-1 (11) vs Juan Lazcano 29-11-2 (17) This was another inside war and both men's faces reflected the violent nature of the fight. Back and forth they went with toe to toe exchanges but Lazcano was able to seize the later rounds and he hurt Turner in the tenth with a right hand en route to the grueling UD. 93-97 & 94-96 x2 Tyrone Crawley 17-3-1 (2) vs Jaguar Kakizawa 16-2-3 (4) Crawley controlled Jaguar with his speed and defense, even flooring Kakizawa with a right hand in round three and Tyrone emerged with a convincing UD. 99-93, 98-94 & 97-93

Lightweight Third Round
(WBC) Henry Armstrong 64-1 (53) vs Billy Ernst 19-2 (9)
Hank dropped Ernst in the opening round with a booming right hand and with the exception of round four, where Billy landed several sharp hooks that lumped up Armstrong's right eye, Henry was in control and a barrage of power shots in round eight caused the ref to step in on Ernst's behalf. Manny Pacquiao 160-16-3 (143) vs John-John Molina 31-11-1 (23) Rematch: Pacquiao TKO2 Damn, talk about a repeat performance. Pac ripped into Molina from the opening bell and his powerful left hands ripped open and swelled up John's right eye by the end of round one. In the second the Pacman continued to strife him with left hands and three in a row drove Molina's neck limp and the ref stepped in late in the second. (IBF) Jem Driscoll 44-2-1 (17) vs Al Singer 16-5 (3) Singer had some success in the opening rounds with his right hand, but by round six Driscoll was carving up Al's face with his jab and drilling Singer with counter hooks and right hands when he attacked Jim's impenetrable defense. It led to a wide UD for the champion. 148-138, 148-139 & 147-139 Juan Manuel Marquez 61-5-1 (44) vs Arthur Douglas 16-3-2 (6) Douglas fought a spoiling fight, jabbing, grabbing and moving; and it worked for him. Marquez tried in vain to force exchanges but all he could really get going were hard body shots when Arthur would find himself on the ropes. JMM staggered Douglas in the eleventh with a hook and he won the final round to help him escape with a SD. 116-115, 114-115 & 115-114 Floyd Mayweather, Jr. 103-3-2 (56) vs Juan Diaz 16-2-3 (11) Diaz aggression and activity gave Floyd some minor early trouble, but he started drilling Diaz with lead right hands that eventually closed up Juan's left eye and the final four rounds saw Floyd backing Diaz up and hurting him with powerful rights and lefts to finish off an entertaining, but lopsided, UD for Money. 120-108 & 118-110 x2 Tony Canzoneri 60-4-1 (24) vs Bobby Dobbs 15-4-2 (6) Tony stunned Dobbs with a short hook in the opening round and that set the tone for the fight. Bobby boxed well for stretches, but Canzoneri landed the harder shots and earned an impressive UD. 119-111, 117-113 & 116-114 Roberto Duran 90-7-5 (68) vs Hilmer Kenty 18-2-1 (10) Kenty used his jab and right hand to keep things tight early, after that Hilmer used his grit and toughness to survive as Duran hammered him to the head and body with both hands in a relentless show of aggression. A wicked uppercut finally floored Kenty in the final round, but he climbed up and finished off the final minute. While the UD for Roberto was never in doubt, everyone applauded the bravery of the Kronk star. 118-108 x3 (WBO) Joel Casamayor 42-2-1 (20) vs Lou Ambers 19-2 (12) Casamayor was sharp early and his left hand opened a cut under Lou's right eye in the second. Ambers began to work the body and drive right hands to the head of the champion. The challenger was well in control in the seventh when he timed Joel throwing a straight left to the body with a perfect cross that crashed into Casmayor's chin and put him flat on his face for the ten count.

Lightweight Third Round
Luis Federico Thompson 38-3 (18) vs Johnny Gonsalves 17-4 (4)
The first half of the fight was very tight, with Gonsalves swelling up Thompson's right eye with his stick but Federico had the fights first dominant round in the sixth when he staggered Johnny twice with hooks. Luis was able to maintain that momentum and he out-worked Gonsalves down the stretch to earn a UD. 117-112, 116-113 & 116-114 Joe Gans 38-3 (25) vs Chris Calvin 14-6-1 (9) Calvin has the punch to hurt anyone, but he has to land it and Gans was having none of that as he butchered Chris from the opening bell before a series of power shots forced the ref's hand midway through the second round. Baby Arizmendi 40-4 (7) vs Amir Khan 52-8-1 (33) While Khan had some big rounds, Arizmendi was the much steadier performer and he out-worked Amir when Khan wasn't having bursts of power shots to advance with a UD. 116-112 x3 Edwin Valero 37-5 (28) vs Davey Day 29-8-4 (5) After two huge rounds from Edwin, that included dropping Day with a hook for a six count in round two, Davey settled in and boxed well with sharp one-twos to bank many rounds. Valero's power was the equalizer and he hurt Davey several times, including in the final round with a hard left cross to help him secure the SD victory. 116-113 x2 & 113-116 Packey McFarland 39-1-1 (26) vs Miguel Angel Gonzalez 29-11-1 (21) Gonzalez showed off his granite chin by absorbing Packey's firepower without so much as blinking, but he couldn't match McFarland's skills and Packey advanced with a comfortable UD. 117-111 x3 Alexis Arguello 83-7 (73) vs Lew Jenkins 15-5-1 (12) A motivated Jenkins is dangerous for anyone and he staggered Alexis in a violent opening round with a right hand that saw them trade furiously over the final minute. However, wading into Arguello is even more dangerous and Jenkins was dropped early in the second with an uppercut and Alexis was picking him apart with murderous bombs when the ref stepped in a minute later. Stevie Johnston 35-5-1 (15) vs Maxie Docusen 14-6-1 (2) In a fight for the purists, the perpetually underrated Johnston did his thing in style; badly swelling Maxie's left eye with his southpaw jab and maintaining the more aggressive style en route to a MD. 118-111, 115-113 & 114-114 Ismael Laguna 18-3 (11) vs Carlo Orlandi 17-4 (5) Orlandi pressed the pace early, opening a cut under Laguna's left eye during an action packed third round. From there Ismael's class showed and he picked apart Carlo with clean two and 3 punch combos on the way to an impressive UD. 119-110 & 117-111 x2

Lightweight Third Round
Julio Cesar Chavez 76-7-4 (54) vs Tyrone Crawley 18-3-1 (2)
Crawley used his fleet feet and fast hands to frustrate Chavez over much of the contest, Julio hurt Tyrone with a hook to the body in round ten but it wasn't enough to prevent Crawley from earning the upset UD. 116-113 x2 & 116-115 Benny Leonard 40-0-1 (27) vs Willie Pep 43-5-1 (18) The names are enormous and the defensive prowess was immense, but the action was virtually non-existent and the larger Leonard dictated the proceedings throughout the brutally dull contest to the tune of a UD. 119-110 x2 & 117-112 Billy Petrolle 21-0 (15) vs (IBO) Arturo Gatti 58-23-2 (38) Petrolle nearly finished Gatti in the opening round after rocking him with a short hook. Billy dominated the second and third rounds before Arturo dropped him early in round four with a hook, Gatti unloaded with everything with his arsenal and the ref stepped in after fifteen unanswered punches to give Gatti the huge upset! Oscar DelaHoya 93-6-2 (63) vs James Busceme 19-2 (10) The 'Golden Boy' was in destructive form, dropping James in the opening round with a combo and twice in the second with vicious hooks before unleashing a flurry early in round three that prompted the ref to call a halt. (WBA) Pernell Whitaker 80-1 (37) vs Artur Grigorian 14-6-1 (6) No upset here, Pea dominated virtually every round and nearly closed Artur's left eye with his jab en route to a comprehensive UD. 120-108 x2 & 117-11 Sandy Saddler 67-5-1 (55) vs Freddie Dawson 19-2 (4) In a back and forth battle that saw both men suffer badly swollen right eyes, Saddler put his shots together over the final two rounds to pull out a narrow UD. 115-114 x3 Diego Corrales 38-6-1 (31) vs Nicolino Locche 32-6-3 (8) Locche couldn't miss Corrales with anything he threw and he boxed circles around Chico with the exception of the last three rounds when Corrales landed with hard hooks and uppercuts. It wasn't nearly enough and Nicolino won the UD. 110-119, 111-117 & 113-115 Dick Finnegan 41-4-3 (10) vs Sammy Angott 14-3-4 (3) In a tight fight that was devoid of action, Finnegan managed to score with enough right hands during a jab contest to emerge with a SD victory. 115-114 x2 & 114-115

Noticed there are champions of the alphabets, do these titles change hands? How did they win them?
I think I'm sure that Duran won your first Lightweight Tournament, so assumed he was numero uno.

They're randomly drawn in the first preliminary fights and it just goes from there. Duran did win the first one, but he's seeded 7th here. They change hands here, the champions era determines if it's 12 or 15 rounds.

Lightweight Third Round
Cornelius Boza-Edwards 41-3-1 (29) vs Damazo Collazo 16-4-1 (6)
Edwards pressed his usual pace, but in the early going the sharp counters of the Cuban carried the rounds. They went toe to toe in round five with both combatants landing thunderous shots(17-17). The tide really turned in the seventh and eighth when Edwards pinned Damazo to the ropes and absolutely pummeled him until the ref looked closely at stopping matters. The eleventh was another potential 2 point round for Boza as he staggered Collazo several times with powerful left hands. The late rally was enough and Cornelius advanced with a tough SD. 115-114 x2 & 114-115 Ray Mancini 36-5 (26) vs Aussie Jack McAuliffe 16-5 (9) Mancini tore into Jack early and he dropped him with a combo in the second round. McAuliffe began to land thunderous hooks to the body and uppercuts to the head to surge during the middle rounds. Ray was able to send him down for a seven count with a right hand in round ten and he finished strong to secure the hard fought MD. 115-111, 114-112 & 113-113 Jose Napoles 40-1 (34) vs Michael Katsidis 36-5-1 (19) Katsidis was his usual grinding self and he hurt Napoles with a hook and opened a cut over his right eye in round four. However, mantequilla was too slick and his combination punching led him to a bizarrely split decision win. 117-112, 113-114 & 116-112 Lew Tendler 19-1-1 (11) vs Dave Holly 18-2-2 (7) Tendler put in another workmanlike performance, nothing flashy but a highly effective and dominant display of jabs and left crosses to go with sterling defense and he earned a wide UD win. 119-109 x2 & 117-111 Sam Langford 98-3 (77) vs Miguel Vazquez 16-4-1 (5) Vazquez showed that his spoiling style can be a problem for anyone and he peppered Langford with jabs while using his movement to frustrate Sam. Things were tight when Miguel swept rounds nine through eleven with beautiful Boxing and he tagged Sam with several clean right hands in the dominant eleventh. Langford marched out for the final round with a determined look and twenty seconds into the final frame he connected with brutal hook flush on the chin that ended Vazquez's upset hopes as he crashed to the canvas for the ten count. Miguel was up by one on two cards and down three on the other. Shane Mosley 54-6-1 (40) vs Anthony Jones 36-6 (24) Mosley dropped Jones early in the first with a hook and an early night seemed distinctly possible, but the Kronk fighter regrouped and landed hard left hands that swelled up Shane's right eye over the next five toe to toe rounds that saw him in control. Early body work paid off for Mosley and he scored four knockdowns over the second half of the fight to take the tough UD. 115-108 x2 & 114-109 Gabriel Elorde 41-4 (22) vs Jack McAuliffe 16-6 (10) McAuliffe appeared to break open a tight fight when he floored Elorde in round seven with a right hand and he took the eighth with strong inside work. Flash responded by rocking Jack with hard left hands in round nine and sweeping the last three rounds to escape with a razor close UD. 115-112 x2 & 114-113 Duilio Loi 37-3-1 (8) vs Sid Terris 18-2-1 (3) A clash of heads in round four left Terris with a nasty gash over his left eye and that cut put a premature end to the tactical battle in round seven and Loi emerged with the close TMD. 58-56, 58-57 & 58-58

Lightweight Third Round
Jose Luis Castillo 90-17-2 (54) vs Hector Camacho 78-23-4 (29)
Hector used his speed of hand and foot to control the first three rounds, in round four JLC began to work his way inside and score with hooks to the body and right hands to the head that formed an abrasion on Camacho's left eye. Jose continued to press the pace and he hurt Hector in round eight with a crushing hook, but Camacho was indeed 'Macho' and boxed brilliantly down the stretch to put away the UD. 111-117 & 112-116 x2 Ike Williams 37-3-1 (24) vs Ted Lewis 78-22-6 (22) Rematch: Williams UD12 Ike just presents a terrible style for Lewis and Ted doesn't have the one punch power to abruptly change things. Lewis gave a valiant effort but Ike was in control throughout and a pulverizing right hand put 'The Kid' down for the count in round ten. Wesley Mouzon 19-1-1 (5) vs Frank Erne 33-8-2 (22) Erne staggered Mouzon with a hook in the opening minute of the fight and a right hand later in the stanza had Wesley holding on. Mouzon kept his bearings and started to fire off sharp one-twos while Erne ground away on the inside. There was little to choose between them, but Mouzon's flashy combo's caught the eye of two judges and he won a razor close SD. 115-114 x2 & 114-115 Roger Mayweather 53-10-2 (34) vs Spoon 34-6-1 (27) After Roger scored with two right hands over the first minute of the fight, Spoon slipped a jab and drove an uppercut square into Mayweather's chin that put the Black Mamba down for the count after exactly 100 seconds. Emory Cabana 17-2-2 (3) vs Kenny Lane 17-2-2 (2) In a predictably tactical fight, Lane's right jab was the deciding factor and he won an entirely forgettable UD. 111-118, 112-116 & 113-115 Joe Brown 20-1 (12) vs Florentino Fernandez 59-20-2 (45) Brown turned a highly anticipated clash into a dazzling exhibition of the sweet science, constantly peppering the Cuban with jabs and turning him to force Florentino to reset. The only problem spot was round eleven when Fernandez landed a brutal hook that exploded Brown's right eye and the ref took him to the doctor to look at the gushing wound, but Joe got the go ahead and coasted through the final round to secure the wide UD. 119-109, 117-111 & 116-113 Jimmy Carter 20-1 (7) vs Louis Kaplan 31-12-1 (5) Kaplan negated much of Carter's speed with his jab, Jimmy did manage to get inside and score with nasty hooks to the body and uppercuts to the head but Kaplan did just enough to score the mild upset via SD. 113-115, 116-112 & 114-115 Aaron Pryor 57-3-1 (49) vs Dave Charnley 16-5-1 (10) After several tactical fights, these two engaged in an epic war. Pryor had a slight edge after six toe to toe rounds and he dropped Dave in the seventh with an overhand right for a count of seven. 'The Hawk' came out in the eighth looking for blood and he walked into a hook from Charnley that dropped him for a five count, Dave promptly landed another scorching hook that sent Aaron down again for a count of eight. In the ninth Charnley continued to land his hook and one of them opened up a nasty gash over Pryor's right eye. The next two rounds were toe to toe but Charnley continued to have the upper hand. After an impassioned speech from Panama Lewis, Pryor erupted out of his corner for the final round and unleashed a furious barrage of shots until a right hand buckled Charnley's legs and sent him stumbling into the ropes, Aaron proceeded to drop bomb after bomb and Dave showed tremendous resolve maintaining his feet until a four punch combo snapped his head back violently and the ref stepped in with Charnley nineteen seconds away from victory.

Lightweight Third Round
Carlos Ortiz 40-0-1 (20) vs Bruce Flowers 16-4-2 (1)
Ortiz put a beating on Flowers, dominating virtually every round; flooring Bruce in round eight and forcing a stoppage with a bevy of blows in round ten. Willie Fitzgerald 19-0-2 (6) vs Willie Ritchie 17-3-1 (3) Fitzgerald's jab was working overtime and it turned Ritchie's face into a swollen and bloody mess en route to a solid UD in an entertaining scrap. 117-111 & 117-112 x2 Jim Watt 17-4-1 (9) vs Rodolfo Gonzalez 14-5-2 (9) Jim Watt continued his unlikely march with an absolutely dominant performance against Gonzalez, he hurt Rodolfo late in the first with an uppercut and teed off on him from the bell in round two until the ref stopped it with a displeased Rodolfo still on his feet. Erik Morales 93-16-3 (60) vs Ray Miller 17-3-1 (6) After two even rounds, Morales rocked Miller with a nasty combination in round three and then he floored him with a right early in the fourth before forcing the stoppage with a vicious barrage of blows later in the round. Crap, I have to run shortly. So just results for these four. Ken Buchanan 18-2-2 (6) UD12 Robert Guerrero 57-12-1 (31) Barney Ross 56-2-4 (19) TKO10 Andy Ganigan 17-5 (12) Sharmba Mitchell 53-8-1 (29) TKO8 Orzubek Nazarov 17-3-2 (10) Nate Campbell 30-8-4 (18) KO3 Tony Morgano 16-5-1 (4)

Lightweight Third Round
Mando Ramos 19-1-1 (11) vs Johnny Bizzarro 28-13-3 (3)
Bizzarro boxed expertly behind his jab in the early going while Mando landed mainly to the body. That paid off in the second half and Ramos had Johnny badly hurt from right hands in rounds nine and eleven as he carved out a UD. 116-112 & 115-113 x2 Esteban Dejesus 35-5-1 (24) vs Edwin Rosario 30-9-2 (16) Dejesus scored liberally in the first four rounds with punishing hooks and right hands that had distension on both of Rosario's eyes. Edwin settled in and fought evenly over the next two rounds before dropping Esteban early in round seven with a right hand, Chapo poured it on and a barrage of shots saw the ref call a halt that some thought was premature. Al Foreman 29-12-2 (8) vs Art Aragon 29-11-1 (13) Aragon was too strong for Foreman and he busted open his mouth and nearly closed his left eye en route to a wide UD. 110-118, 111-118 & 111-117 Bob Montgomery 18-2-1 (10) vs Fred Galiana 18-4 (5) Montgomery did a number on Fred's face with powerful combinations that had both of his eyes badly swollen. Gailana fought valiantly, but things got ugly down the stretch and only his toughness enabled him to see the final bell and hear the announcer proclaim Bob the winner via UD. 119-110, 118-110 & 116-112 Rocky Kansas 19-1-1 (8) vs Patsy Sweeney 18-1-2 (7) Kansas was well in control when he floored Patsy late in round nine with a hook and then he iced him early in round ten with a combination. Enrique Bolanos 18-3 (11) vs Vinny Pazienza 50-29-2 (19) They immediately started swapping leather and Enrique staggered Vinny with a hook, Bolanos drove him into the ropes and unloaded with both hands until the referee called a halt after under two minutes of action. Harold Jones 16-5 (3) vs Juan Lazcano 30-11-2 (17) The second fight in a row had a surprising early ending when Lazcano caught Jones with a clean hook flush on the chin that put him down for the count with just over a minute gone in round one. Jimmy Paul 16-5 (10) vs Roger Bernard 34-7-3 (8) Paul struggled to score with his powerful right hand, but his jab was enough to keep Roger at bay and Jimmy won a rather dull UD. 118-111, 117-112 & 116-113

Lightweight Third Round
Jose Luis Ramirez 20-1 (15) vs Lockport Jimmy Duffy 15-4-2 (7)
In a very tight contest, Duffy frustrated Ramirez for long stretches with jabs and holding. JLR floored Jimmy for a six count in round seven with a left hand but Duffy controlled the next few rounds until Jose hurt him early in the twelfth with a cross, Ramirez unloaded with both hands until a right hook put Duffy down for the count with ten seconds left in the fight. Cesar Bazan 31-10-1 (16) vs Maxie Shapiro 14-7-2 (3) Bazan dominated this match up of underdogs from the outset, using his right hand to close Shapiro's eye until the doctor recommended a stoppage from the damage in round nine. Sammy Fuller 35-3-3 (13) vs Battling Nelson 19-2 (10) Fuller boxed well in the early going, but Nelson's inside game had both of his eyes badly swollen by the end of round five. Fuller had a huge eighth round when he tagged the Dane with clean combinations but Battling controlled the affair with body work and uppercuts to the head down the stretch and Nelson took the well earned UD. 112-117, 113-116 & 113-115 Frankie Randall 31-7-3 (20) vs Acelino Freitas 37-7 (19) I was pumped for this one, and it didn't disappoint. Freitas used a two fisted assault to swell up both of Randall's eyes after one round. Frankie shot right hands to keep the Brazilian off until a hook in round five opened a bad cut over 'The Surgeons' right eye. Randall continued to box well and these two put on a tenth round for the ages when they went toe to toe for the entire three minutes (22-23), Randall clearly won the final round and it was enough to earn him a grueling draw. 115-113, 113-115 & 114-114 Beau Jack 19-2 (10) vs Sammy Mandell 19-2 (3) Mandell's counter right hand drew significant swelling from Jack's left eye during the first four rounds of the fast paced bout. Beau turned the tide early in round five when he floored Sammy with a hook for a four count, while Jack was flailing away a short counter hook from Mandell dropped Jack for a five count and Sammy closed the thrilling round scoring with clean combos. Jack's aggression was relentless, but Mandell carved him up at times with counters, in particularly in round eight. Beau really turned the tide in round eleven when he floored Sammy with an overhand right and Jack dominated the final round to walk away with a tough MD. 115-112, 115-113 & 114-114 Rafael Ruelas 15-6-1 (11) vs Jack Blackburn 34-5-2 (11) Ruelas was dogged, but outclassed, and he gave all he had until the eighth round when jack repeatedly tagged him with clean combos that had rafael in a bad way when a right eye exploded his left eye that led to an immediate stoppage. Brandon Rios 35-5-1 (27) vs Paul Spadafora 26-12-3 (4) After some early struggles, Brandon's physical strength took over the fight and he floored Paul with aright hands in the seventh and tenth rounds before forcing the ref's hand late in round ten with a barrage of blows. Freddie Welsh 20-1 (3) vs Willie Joyce 31-8-3 (9) In a highly tactical fight, Joyce scored flash knockdowns in rounds two and ten with counter hooks and that enabled him to pull off the minor upset via MD. 111-116, 113-115 & 113-113

Lightweight Third Round (Rematch)
Frankie Randall 31-7-4 (20) vs Acelino Freitas 37-7-1 (19)
This wasn't the war that the first fight was, but it still provided a high entertainment level. Once again Freitas was able to swell up both of Frankie's eyes, but this time Randall employed a style more of a 'boxer' and his jab, movement, and well timed right hands enabled him to advance via UD. 116-112 x3

Lightweight Fourth Round
(WBC) Henry Armstrong 65-1 (54) vs Willie Joyce 32-8-3 (9)
Armstrong's relentless assault had Joyce fighting on the defensive from the opening bell. Powerful hooks and uppercuts had Willie's right eye nearly closed by the twelfth round when Hank dropped him three times to force the automatic stoppage. Manny Pacquiao 161-16-3 (144) vs Brandon Rios 36-5-1 (28) Pacquiao's speed and power had Rios in a bad way early in the opening round with punishing combinations. Manny buckled his legs several times with left hands during a dominant second and the referee stopped the slaughter with Brandon under heavy fire early in round three. (IBF) Jem Driscoll 45-2-1 (17) vs Jack Blackburn 35-5-2 (12) Rematch: D12 Two master boxers put on a technical masterpiece, Driscoll built an early lead by taking more chances and he stunned Blackburn with a right hand in round three. 'Chappie' started scoring frequently with lead right hands and he dominated rounds nine through eleven. Things were tight down the stretch, but Jack did just enough to hoist the title via SD. 142-144, 143-142 & 142-143 Juan Manuel Marquez 62-5-1 (44) vs Beau Jack 20-2 (10) Jack blew through the first two rounds with non-stop punching and his right hand left Marquez with a swelling left eye. Juan got his counters going in the third and they traded short shots on the inside on even terms. They maintained that pattern, warring on the inside and Marquez hurt Beau with an uppercut during a particularly violent round six(24-16). The violence continued and there was little to choose between them until Jack staggered Marquez with a right hand and landed several more on Marquez' now ballooning left eye. Beau got the better of things from there and he sealed the deal by dropping JMM twice in the final round on his way to the impressive UD. 109-117, 110-116 & 112-114

Lightweight Fourth Round
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. 104-3-2 (56) vs Frankie Randall 32-7-4 (20)
After a strong opening round from Floyd, Randall staggered him in round two with a right hand and scored with combos until Floyd stormed back in the final minute with several clean rights. The Surgeon out-worked Floyd in round three and early in the fourth a right hand dropped Mayweather for a seven count and Randall stunned him again with a right before the bell. After a tight round five, 'Money' began to adjust and slip Frankie's right hand and counter with short, powerful, hooks of his own. Floyd was walking him down and in control when an uppercut floored Randall late in round nine, Frankie found himself on the deck twice more in round ten and a right hand from Floyd opened a terrible gash over Randall's left eye to open round eleven and the ref called it a night. Tony Canzoneri 61-4-1 (24) vs Battling Nelson 20-2 (10) Nelson's mauling and brawling against Tony's technical prowess led to a lot of clinching in tight, but things were very close when Nelson stunned Canzoneri in the ninth with a right hand. Canzoneri came on strong in the last two rounds with clean combinations while they exchanged heavily and that enabled him to earn the tough SD. 115-113 x2 & 113-115 Roberto Duran 91-7-5 (68) vs Cesar Bazan 32-10-1 (17) Bazan gave as good as he got in the first two rounds and then Cesar clearly took rounds three and four with hard body shots and uppercuts on the inside. Roberto started to wake up a bit by the sixth, but Bazan was well in it when a massive right hand dropped the Mexican early in round nine; Duran unloaded with both hands and Cesar was helpless along the ropes when the ref stepped in and ended Bazan's valiant bid for an upset. (WBO) Lou Ambers 20-2 (13) vs Jose Luis Ramirez 21-1 (16) Ramirez had the best of the early going, pasting Ambers with powerful overhand lefts that had Lou's right eye swelling by the end of round five. The bout continued to take place in tight, but Ambers started scoring with double and triple hooks to the head and body. In the tenth Lou snapped back ramirez head three times with uppercuts but Jose buckled the champions legs in the twelfth with a nasty left hand. They fought evenly down the stretch but ramirez staggered Ambers late in round fifteen with a vicious uppercut and that punctuated the UD win for the challenger. 141-144 x3

Lightweight Fourth Round
Luis Federico Thompson 39-3 (18) vs Jimmy Paul 17-5 (10)
Thompson was dominating the opening round with strong hooks to the body and head when Paul shot a right hand down the chute that floored Luis for a six count in the closing seconds of the round. Federico out-worked him in the second but Paul nearly closed the show in round three hurting the Argentinean several times with his right hand that started some swelling under Federico's left eye. As the rounds wore on, the power of 'The Ringmaster' was the deciding factor, he dropped Luis again in round nine with a right hand and closed strong to secure an impressive UD. 109-116, 110-115 & 111-115 Joe Gans 39-3 (26) vs Juan Lazcano 31-11-2 (18) Joe Gans marched into Mexico and emphatically put an end to this string of upsets. Lazcano's grit enabled him to last the distance, but he absorbed a terrible beating and was dropped three times on the way to the wide UD for Joe. 119-106 x2 & 118-107 Baby Arizmendi 41-4 (7) vs Enrique Bolanos 19-3 (12) Arizmendi's speedy combinations carved up Bolanos face, opening a terrible gash over his left eye in round one and steadily closing his right with swift left hands. The wounds eventually caused a halt to the surprisingly one sided contest in round eleven. Edwin Valero 38-5 (28) vs Rocky Kansas 20-1-1 (9) Kansas expertly played the matador in the opening round, sticking Edwin with his southpaw jab and alluding the wild bombs of his foe. The first two minutes of round two were the same until Edwin cracked Rocky with an uppercut that put him down for a six count, Valero attacked with a vengeance and with ten seconds left in the round a devastating left hand crashed into Kansas' chin and left him motionless for the ten count.

Lightweight Fourth Round
Packey McFarland 40-1-1 (26) vs Bob Montgomery 19-2-1 (10)
This was an action packed battle with McFarland pressing the pace and pounding the body while Montgoemery scored with searing counter hooks and uppercuts. Even after six rounds, the body work began to pay dividends and McFarland surged ahead. Early in round nine a chopping right hand staggered Bob and Packey hammered his tiring foe until the ref saw fit to call a halt. Alexis Arguello 84-7 (74) vs Art Aragon 30-11-1 (13) Aragon boxed well in the first with sharp one-twos and he was doing even better in the second until he got careless firing a right to the body and Alexis unleashed a pinpoint counter hook that landed flush on the jaw and deposited Art flat on his face where he remained for the count of ten. Stevie Johnston 36-5-1 (15) vs Edwin Rosario 31-9-2 (17) Rosario opened a nasty cut over Johnston's left eye with a right hand in the opening round and after a few tight rounds Edwin dropped him in the fifth with another booming right. Stevie stormed back in the sixth when he tattooed Chapo with a stream of combinations in an utterly dominant stanza. Despite the cut reopening several times, the second half of the fight belonged to Johnston, sharp defense and combo's earned him a surprisingly SD. 116-112, 113-115 & 116-114 Ismael Laguna 19-3 (11) vs Mando Ramos 20-1-1 (11) Laguna put a decisive end to Ramos' run with a thorough drubbing that ended in round four when a nasty uppercut put Mando down for the count.

Lightweight Fourth Round
Tyrone Crawley 19-3-1 (2) vs Nate Campbell 30-8-4 (18)
Though this is a surprising match up this deep in the tourney, it provided a great style contrast with the fleet footed Crawley moving and firing combos while Nate chugged forward and worked the body when he could get in close. The early going favored Tyrone and he even dropped Campbell in round six with an uppercut, more embarrassed than hurt Nate returned the favor in round seven when he floored Crawley with an overhand right. Campbell repeatedly pressed Tyrone to the ropes during the second half of the bout, and, while Crawley countered well, Nate was out-working him in most of the fast paced stanzas. Then in the final round Crawley summoned up the energy to get back on his bike and he put on a brilliant display of Boxing to clearly win the round and consolidate the upset of Chavez with a SD. 115-111, 112-114 & 114-112 Benny Leonard 41-0-1 (27) vs Sharmba Mitchell 53-8-1 (29) Mitchell performed well, but the 'Ghetto Wizard' used lead right hands to make a mess of Mitchell's eye and he was in control throughout en route to the UD. 118-110, 117-111 & 117-112 (IBO) Arturo Gatti 59-23-2 (39) vs Barney Ross 56-2-4 (19) Barney was cruising along through four rounds, pasting gatti with combinations and using his defensive prowess to avoid the majority of the return fire. In round five lightning struck when Arturo dug a hook to the liver that put Ross on his hands and knees, Barney barely beat the count and somehow managed to survive the round. It took a couple rounds to recover, once he did it was all Ross and the clock struck twelve for this Cinderella as Ross took the title and the UD. 109-118 x2 & 110-117 Oscar DelaHoya 94-6-2 (64) vs Ken Buchanan 18-2-2 (6) The first five rounds were tight, and tactical, as Buchanan countered the physicality of Oscar with deft technique. In the sixth they went at it with neither man taking a backward step in an action packed round(17-15). In round seven Oscar landed a crushing hook that dropped the Scot for a seven count. From there DelaHoya used his size and strength to maintain the upper hand in most rounds and that led him to an impressive MD. 115-112, 115-113 & 114-114

Lightweight Fourth Round
(WBA) Pernell Whitaker 81-1 (37) vs Erik Morales 94-16-3 (61)
Given very little chance, Morales summoned an herculean effort, after four tight rounds El Terrible forced war in the fifth and they went toe to toe with thrilling exchanges(15-16). Whitaker started to employ more movement but Erik cut off the ring effectively. In round ten Pernell slipped an uppercut and landed a cuffing hook that dropped Morales for a two count. Pea showed off his class in th e final two rounds, firing off 3 and 4 punch combinations that enabled him to earn the tougher than expected UD. 116-112, 115-112 & 114-113 Sandy Saddler 68-5-1 (55) vs Jim Watt 18-4-1 (10) Watt came in riding a wave of momentum and he more than held his own, matching Saddler on the inside with sound body work and uppercuts to the head during six even rounds. Sandy took the seventh with rough tactics and early in round eight he staggered Watt with a right hand, Saddler opened up his entire arsenal and despite the protests of Jim and his corner, the fight was stopped late in the frame. Nicolino Locche 33-6-3 (8) vs Willie Fitzgerald 20-0-2 (6) In a very tactical fight, Fitzgerald was more willing to take risks and two of the judges rewarded him for it. 114-115 x2 & 115-114 Dick Finnegan 42-4-3 (10) vs Carlos Ortiz 41-0-1 (21) Carlos busted open Finnegan's left eye with a jab in the opening moments of the bout and he continued to target the wound until it caused a premature ending in round four.
