How do most Play
I was wondering how most people play this game?
Do you use the one pitch per player option? Play to a certain inning? Just interested to see what's popluar and I know it all comes down to an individual preference. Thanks for the help. |

I play "until runners in scoring position" when my team is in the field...usually play out the half inning we're at bat with the one pitch mode.

I've finally went off the deep end. I no longer even manage a team. I simply pick a team and follow it like a fan. 1 pitch mode, and I guess the best thing to call it would watch them all out. Ugh!

I tend to play out every game in one-pitch mode. Pitch-by-pitch takes too long, but if you were trying to do a real-time league where you only play one game per real life day it would probably be a blast to play pitch-by-pitch.
I love tinkering with lineups so I usually set all of the lineups and pitching staff, and sometimes I'll control substitutions in-game but I typically let my field manager do all of the in-game strategy stuff, like baserunning, pitching and hitting, shifting the fielders around, etc. Everytime I try to just sim through the games I start to feel disconnected from the league. In my opinion there is a spectrum, with speed on one side and immersion on the other. For 100% full immersion, you'd be watching at least every one of your team's games or maybe even every game in the league, reading all of the news stories, checking the transactions - but your league would progress very slowly, with each season taking a month or two. On the other end of the spectrum, you could sim pretty quickly and build up a history of 100 seasons for your league, and you'll probably know who all of the really great players were, but there would be a lot about your league that you really wouldn't know about. For me it's difficult because I love playing historic-type leagues and starting at the "beginning," but I really want to play out each game and get involved in the day-to-day narrative of the league, so I have to battle with the fact that it might take several real-life years to bring a league to the modern day. |

That's an interesting way to play, and I wonder how much of a die-hard you'll end up becoming, and how frustrating it would be to see your team trade your favorite player or make a terrible signing.

Sim one day at a time. Control lineups, depth charts, pitching staff etc daily, but leave in game substitutions to Birdie Tebbets (my manager).

For leagues where i am just the GM I tend to sim a week at a time and then play out the playoffs either by just watching the game or by taking control. When i am the MGR i control all lineups, when I am not i only over ride the MGR when he doesn't play someone i like. I use force start sometimes. I do not use 7 day lineups except in online leagues.

Hi again, I was wondering, when in the game and after the play is done I usually pres the space ket to advance to the next batter or pitch, however, a box quickly pops up and then disappears with information before the next batter or pitcher is up. I was wondering about this? How do I slow that notification down?

I play GM only in my offline league. I even let my manager do call ups and send downs even though he likes to annoy me at times. I sim each series day by day, then check my messages in between series unless I get a PM. I generally do all my trading at the all star break and the trade deadline unless something drastic happens. I will do extensions and the like after the playoffs and before the offseason. When my team makes the playoffs I watch each game in one pitch mode and try not to throw my laptop.

I do a mix of simming and watching the games play out every so often so I get a feel for what my guys are doing and when I need to make a change. It can take me anywhere from two days to two months to finish a season depending on how many games I stop to watch. I often have OOTP going in-game while I play a controller or graphical game on my other pc or console.
I have rarely played out every game of a season, setting 7-day lineups beforehand, and even more rarely managed an entire season. I only do this sporadically as my true love is setting up the teams in the offseason. |
