Which Way Do You Prefer To Import Historical Rookies

Trying to figure out which way is the most fun/challenging when importing historical rookies. I am restarting my History of the White Sox using a Spritze DB. I am leaning towards bringing them in as FA until the 1960's, so teams with money can sign who they want. I am going to try to keep owners accurate through 2014. I stopped in 1935 just recently with just 1 WS win and 1 WS loss. I could never trade for Shoeless Joe Jackson or Eddie Collins.

When I started playing OOTP back in version 5, I did an Orioles replay starting from 1998-2002 and imported rookies to original teams. Then I started another Orioles replay from 1970-2011, also with rookies to original teams.

With OOTP14, I started a league as the 1950 Browns, and I decided to switch to drafting real rookies. I LOVE the draft. It adds so much more realism, and while it makes me sad that guys like Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken may not eventually end up on my team, at least I'll be able to target young players I need instead of getting stuck with whatever the real Orioles that year had coming down the pipe.

Short answer: draft!

Right now I have it set up for draft. I know I had the most fun with the draft but it seemed I would get over on the AI like that because I knew who the pleyers are and what they could do where as the AI just sees the current ratings. Last time I used a draft on 13 I had won 31 of 45 championships 1871-1948. That was with the Gambo/spritze DB. I got Eddie Collins in the 3rd rd i belive. I had Ty Cobb Walter Johnson, traded for Christy Mathewson.

Isn't there a checkbox under the amateur draft rules to Use pre-defined value for AI to prevent that from occurring? That was my understanding of what that box was for.

I think with the alternative, having them come in as free agents, you'd have an even bigger advantage, because you could target all the top players.

I have never checked that before, I think. I will try it out thanx.
My goal if i were to bring them in as FA was to sim 1 day after they come in and only offer 1 player a contract per day. I also never overpay for players, one of the reasons why i suck at online leagues.
