Post Amateur Players

What if....

Instead of knowing the amateur's ratings before the draft, have the amateur's play in their own league consisting of 8 teams (number of teams obviously subject to change). Put the next year's amateur's in this league and have them play each other. Then, the team owner's would have to scout to see who to draft, rather than just pull up the list of talents. Furthermore, you could add scouts and the scouts could be rated (From bad to good or whatever) and they could tell you who the best players are (in case the player has a bad year in the amateur league).

If you don't understand what I just tried to say, let me know and I will try to explain it better. If you do understand, post a response...I'd like to hear what you think.

ps - the word "you" in the last paragraph refers to everyone

Injuries would have to be turned off in this "amateur league"

I agree that having more details about the players in the amateur draft will be very good. Whether or not a league is necessary for this is debatable. I personally love drafting and enjoy watching the players that I drafted develop into MLB players or end up getting lost in the free agent world.

I guess my main point here is that drafting in the real MLB is a very challenging and is a time consuming process. Just as much time needs to be put in to it as say free agency, but the way it is set up now, drafting is not a challenge. You throughly look through the list of players once and you are good to go. Perhaps a league is not needed to make the process more of a challenge, but I would be in favor of seeing something done. Any ideas?

I know it's too late for version 4, but I like the multiple scouts and assignments used in Eastside Hockey Manager. Basically you send out your scouts to countries or regions to find prospects. The best finds can then be put on a short list for your top scout to look at and re-rate. That way preparation for the draft is a year long event.

I like your idea of having a list of players to be scouted. The rest can be rated by an "average" scout. Scouting might also be better if it's split up into every month or x number of weeks. This can be a good distraction for the majority that plays solo. I was told not to expect anything like overseas scouting/players anytime soon.

In regards to the scouting foreign players, anything that we would do in that area would merely be random and the number of impact players that this aspect of scouting currently brings in is just not enough for this to be included.

I mean how many leagues or teams would you have to scout? How many players? How much more would the game be slowed by something like this?

If it is an important area for you then make up some players and create them to come into your league. I don't mean to place this in a negative light but it is just not a priority right now.

Besides if you look at the teams that bid on players from overseas it is normally only 3-6.

Can players be exported/imported from league to league?

For instance, if I wanted to emulate collegiate baseball could I create a separate league, run it a season after my main league's season has ended, and export all players with four years experience into my main league's draft pool?

I used to do something similar to that in BBPro.

Thanks.

I haven't fooled around with Pierre's editor yet. I guess that will give me something to do this (holiday) weekend.
