What's the Best Way...

I would like to play with an expansion team that I make up and control...with all of the rules of the current MLB and just add my team in to a division somewhere. is this possible? if it is what is the best and easiest way of setting it up? thanks

I believe the MLB quickstart starts at Opening Day so I would suggest simming 2013 then clicking the expansion after the season. I find it best to expand the 1st day of Free Agency. I believe you have to be in Commish mode for the expansion option under League Options to appear.

I agree with The Game on all points except when.

I find that it is best to expand on Feb 1. This way you can make adjustments to settings, make changes to scouting budget, make changes to development budget, etc all at once. Also, most of the good free-agents and/or the free-agents with reasonable demands are already gone. Makes expansion more challenging. I also suggest letting the AI protect 30 players on their 40. You will have plenty of chances to pilfer their rosters later. Build with an eye towards the future. Don't grab any now players. All prospects. Get the farm up an running quick-like.

Have fun!

I am fine with starting in whatever season that the game starts in...I just want to add my team right off the bat. So this is possible? I just find an expansion option and go from there? AM I able to create players? Thanks by the way.

To create players go to the FA screen and add fictional players. Then edit them in the Editor on their player profile page if you want.

Not recommended to do this at the initial season start date. You will have zero players on your minor league rosters. You will need to offer free-agent contracts to free agents. Those free agents will need a few days to decide to accept for reject your offer.

If the minor league season is already underway you may get an error about not enough players. In that case you will need to turn on ghost players on and play with (unrealistic) short-handed minor league teams. Another option is to fill minor league teams with fictional players but this fills your team with players that don't have history (sucks)

It is best to sim at least one season like The Game suggested.

But..."It's your game, play it your way."

Enjoy the game.
